I managed to remove the plastic cover of the terminal and reconnect the cables in order to start the car (second picture).cd473380-4d62-4dad-b0d8-881e263f8fd7.jpeg

Now, my question is how do you replace this part? I have a spare parts car that I want to use for this. However, the positive cable and the battery safety terminal look different on the parts car... (picture 3). Both cars are pre-facelift 2.5s with the M54 engine. Mine is a 2003, the parts car is a 2005. Are the cables compatible? Thanks.

I've no idea the year of your car or the country your located in, but here is the USA BMW info for the battery cables: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BU33-USA-02-2008-E85-BMW-Z4_30i&diagId=61_1994

Maybe BMW used different battery cable systems for different countries, I just don't know that answer. BMW may have also changed the cables by year of the battery? I would use realoem.com & then select your country and year of the car. Good luck with this.

Yep, apparently they changed the cable in 2005.
Mine has this part number: 61126935667

The 2005 car has this part number: 61136973215

Does anyone know if they are interchangeable?
