Battery replacement

Hi all,
I think my battery may start to be on the way out and I want to get ahead of the curve.
Does the replacement *need* to be coded? If so can the likes of Halfrauds etc replace it and code it? I imagine BMW themselves will charge stupid money to do it....

What options are there? I could order the battery online and replace it myself but the coding is what concerns me.

i belive it needs to be coded, you can probably find someone nearby though, or invest in a code reader that does it, always handy to have in the garage.. i have this one, worked a treat when i fitted mine https://www.amazon.co.uk/AUTOPHIX-Multi-System-Diagnostic-Transmission-Registration/dp/B08DG22XHF/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3HW8NVM3EN1M1&dchild=1&keywords=bmw+code+reader&qid=1598004099&s=automotive&sprefix=bmw++code%2Cautomotive%2C405&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFQUVdKTkMxSEtENjMmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAzNjMwODcyRElZTVZCNU5aOEFBJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA5NDU1MjgxQlJRM0ZMNVBBREkyJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
With a battery from Tayna around 100 quid with discount (use code facebook45 for 5‰ off) not much difference from buying and fitting from halfords which will run you to about £175.. Ive just researched and done this this week and now have the benefit of a new battery and a code reader... probably cheaper ways of doing it with ista and the like but I like the convenience of a plug and play reader

Am I reading the cost of these batteries right? Eurocarparts are charging £530 for a new Bosch battery!!!! Geezuz..... I thought they'd be £150 or so!

Thanks mate. Yes I saw that and see no reason why that wouldn't work. I use marine batteries from Tanya on my boat and they are superb.

...other thing to check is my alternator is kicking out the correct charge voltage so I do not have to shell out for a battery if that isn't the issue.

Just a quick thought guys. Cigar socket is switched off fully on E89 when ignition is off? i think so but checking to br 100% suire.

Holy s**t, Mine is on the way out as well. I get the battery symbol up on occasion.

Why the hell does a battery need to be coded to the car. !!! :!: :!: :!:

Car uses different charging "strategy" on new and old batteries. Is it really needed - I don't think so. But since it's implemented it is easier to just roll with it.

Just done the same this week, battery from tayna, adapter from amazon and bimmerlink and bimmercode from the app store.

It need to know if the new battery is AGM or not and the amp rating. If you replacing with the exact same battery rating, you only have to reset it to new battery. I used INPA to reset. However, I needed NcsExpert to code to a different battery type and amp rating.

Cant see if you are E85 / 86 or 89 - guessing an E89 if your battery is over £500
Try Costco - come with a 42 month guarantee - they just repace of anything goes wrong.

A Bosch S4 027 for E86 / E86 is £79 but need to be a member to buy - that only about £25 for a year so if your battery is that expemsive?

Bristol Phone No is : 0117 916 0135
If yours is not an S4-027 just give them a call and get a quote for the actual battery fitted - dont need to be a member for a quote.
