Battery Replacement 3.0Si Coupe

Hi

My exsisting OEM battery is starting to fail and I want to replace it before it dies altogether. I know there is plenty of information on here and other forums, but I have a few more questions around this subject that i require some sound advice on please.

1) The current spec on on the battery label indicates a CCA = 640 and 80Ah. Do I stick to that spec or go slightly higher? What are the correct measurements of the battery?

2) There seems to be various ways to possibly avoid losing the cars memory when the battery is disconnected. I have read that connecting a 12V trickle charger to the battery terminal cables can prevent this. Is this true, and are there any risks in doing this?
I also have seen that 9V battery devices connected in via the Cigarette holder can also work. Has anybody used one of these devices, and do they work?

3) Does the new battery have to be registered with BMW. I have read various reports about this too?

1) You can go higher on the CCA if you like. Capacity is your own choice really though obviously higher will last longer when parked up. I got a Varta E44 for £68 delivered - 780 CCA / 77 Ah. It fitted physically with no issue though I think it was a little taller.

2) You can do either - the lighter socket is designed to accept a trickle charger so this may be the easiest option.

3) No.
 
i just used biggest bosche recommended on eurocarparts, with discount was around 90 quid delivered

swapped it over and didnt loose any settings or get transport mode
