Battery relocation in Z4M Roadster?

I'm thinking about upgrading to a Z4M roadster (rather than supercharging my 2.5) but really hate the battery placement in the trunk. The reason I love my Z4 is the fact that I can put a bike in the trunk and take off to a race or long weekend. But due to the placement on the Z4M, that will no longer be possible! :-(

So my question is has anyone thought about, looked into, or actually relocated the battery? Or know someone or some way to do this. This will be a major factor in my purchase so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't really think it could be done without a huge amount of work TBH. Where would you put it for a start, it seems that there is no room underneath the floorpan, unless you moved to a single exit exhaust, but even that would mean cutting the floorpan and having to do a lot of welding etc? That's probably the only way to do it.

I'd probably get a 3.0Si instead if you definitely want to use the bike, or get another car too, but I know that's not always an option :idunno:

A poster over on Bimmerfest reduced the space a bit. Most of that big lump is the compressor kit and tools. Remove those (maybe under the passenger seat), then get a small, lightweight racing battery and you've recovered most of the space.

I would just want to move the batter to the far right corner. It's just in the WORST place. Even if it were in the middle I could handle work around it. But if I can remove the cover, move the compressor and tools (those can just sit in the trunk) and get a smaller battery, I may be set. Keep these great ideas coming!!!

OH, can someone take a picture of the battery placement in the M roadster with and without the cover? I've never even seen what's under it to know what I'm dealing with and my local dealer doesn't have one available. Thanks! Keep these great ideas coming!!!

Interesting thread and some great ideas
Good finds Mike on the photos and write ups.

I just picked up a pair of delivery mileage OEM ///M rear boxes (for almost nothing :) and am toying with pulling the battery box out, relocating it to another location and in the process ending up with a twin output. Need to get on my ramps to do some measuring and then decisions about looping a single exhaust or going revised twin all the way from manifold or cat back...

How the hell do you fit a bike in the boot, what size frame do you have?

You can buy a bike rack which goes on the back of the M if the worst comes to the worst. Then u just remove it when not in use

i read that original thread a while back and didn't tihnk too much of it, but now every time i look in the boot i recognise how much bigger it could be... was there a picture of the finished boot with the trim back ?

Ad note that there could be more room on the left and right sides, but Earl added more hardware in after moving the battery to the rear bulkhead.

I have a small frame (about a 52 cm or 54 top tube on my compact frames)...actaully there are about 9 bikes in my garage right now and most of them fit. I simply have to remove the wheels and the seatpost and it fits perfectly!!!
