New battery - E85M

I foolishly let my battery go completely flat and whilst the cTek brought it back to life I'm thinking I should probably change it (its at least 9 years old so only a matter of time I guess before it gives up the ghost). Since it went flat i've had periods where the Christmas lights were on early.

Is the OEM size 278mm X 175mm X 190mm? I'm a little lost on what to replace it with, some mention AGM, is this required?

Last ask (apologies), from reading other forum posts it doesn't need a reset and I won't lose the radio code, has anyone found this not to be the case?

Would this be suitable? https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/varta/e44/

Thanks in advance

(I'm planning to follow this to replace - https://www.pelicanparts.com/techar...on_Notes_and_Replacement.htm#project-comments)

someone recently put a compact lightweight lithium battery in their M.
Might be well worth the upgrade?

Here you go, not an M but… page 6…

Got this For the M in February from ML performance. I just copied what was in there, works a treat and a good price.

I bought an Exide 096 AGM 70Ah battery from Tayna for my MC in April 2021 for £105 and it is still performing perfectly. :)

I liked the idea of a lithium battery to free up loads of boot space, but after some discussion with other Z4 owners it seems that although the lithium batteries have plenty of cranking power they don't retain charge too long.

So for a car that may not be used for 2 weeks or so sometimes (like mine) they might not be the right option. I bought an AGM one because I read somewhere it would work well for infrequent use, and it has so far!

I ended up with an AGM 096 fitted by National Tyres...it was £104 including a 4 year guarantee
  • Capacity: 70Ah
  • Startup power: 720A
Seems to do the trick (so far)!

That seems like a bargain, fitted from the garage.

My previous battery was a Bosch AGM, great starting power which paired up well with a new starter motor. However I left it for longer than I dare to mention, which killed it at 2-3 years old. I had to rush and get a new battery on the morning of an MOT, the AGM equivalent at euro car parts was a total rip off, so I paid over the tops there for a Bosch standard. I suspect this won't work as well for me as I can't access power to trickle charge, and don't start it often enough. So yes... AGM isn't required (no stop-start etc), but they do perform better if it's not a daily. Just don't leave to too long !

Is it sealed the one you have? The main reason for the AGM is that they are inside the car so don't need the vent pipe.

I’d understood that this battery was sealed, but I was in a bit of a panic and a rush when I looked into this and bought it. It reads so online looking again tonight having seen this.

My car lives in a garage away from home, I’ll be there tomorrow morning to go check for any vent holes now, I’m worried ! I’ll get back to you on this!

That's an AGM I'm sure of it? S5 is AGM, I think S4 is std?

I just bought a Type 115. Fits perfectly and the increased size means more CCA, depending on what you get.

It has a similar code to the AGM, but isn’t. I had the AGM before that and it didn’t last long, badly treated by me as I let it discharge and they definitely don’t like that.

Just as a folllow up if anyone finds this in a search, non AGM is ok. Don’t forget to take the bung off the battery transport terminal cover to plug one vent, and as per the photo, don’t forget to plug in the vent tube which takes the gasses out and under!
