Battery registration - Autophix 5900

I changed the battery on Mrs Boris X3 yesterday. I put a slight bigger, higher capacity version on as the cost wasn’t much different (an 020 rather than 019).

No issue in registering the battery with Autophix 5900 OBD, however, it didn’t seem to have an option to account for the slight change in battery power.

So my question is two fold, am I missing something in the Autophix menu (I know a few others use them on here) and is it a problem not to adjust the settings for a higher rated battery,? I imagine it definitely is for a lower rated version as it may “overcharge”.

Regards, BBB

Sounds like the change in battery specs will need coding. Registering is for a simple a like for like swap. I'm not familiar with Autophix, I use ISTA+. I'm sure you've checked all the options, perhaps someone else who's used it can chime in.

There was definitely that option on mine when i did it as I remember looking at it and double checking whether i needed to change it or not.

Is the same version… the 5900? I tried various button pushes, I even looked in the instruction book 🤷‍♂️

Yes i have the 5900, from what I remember when going through the process it just came up on the screen as a yes or no option, something like "is the battery of the same cca capacity as the one being replaced" or words to that effect, as mine was the same i just pressed yes. I assume that if i had pressed no i would have got further options.

My memory is a bit fuzzy but isn't there something in the manual about updating the machine by connecting to a computer if the battery registration feature isnt working correctly?

Thanks Mr T. These are the pages from the 5900 manual, which correspond to the screens I saw on the machine. Doesn’t seem to have the option you mentioned, is there another menu option somewhere that I am missing?

Nice one, thank you kind sir. I will have another look tomorrow, looks like I have not scrolled down or something when needed 👍

OK so I tried again many times. I am still unable to find a screen to enter the power of the new battery. The images are the wrong way round, but if I select the option to register a battery of different voltage it just jumps to the screen saying it’s been successfully registered…if I then press ok to “carry out the following” it just jumps to the “service function complete” screen which is a dead end

Surely it’s not as difficult as I am making it??

Hi EZ, Having pressed up, down, left, right… it gave me this extra line. Which is an option I don’t recognise from the other menus available?

Eeek!
Lost me.

However, you have helped me decide one thing. I shall always replace like for like batteries.

He He - me too next time I think, the bigger, higher power version seemed a good idea at the time.

I am hoping that last screen might jog Mr Tourette’s memory and he may come back with a suggestion. Still should be no problem starting the car at present, it probably thinks it’s got about 26 batteries to work with

Hey Bbb, not sure where this rabbit hole goes as I replaced like for like but remembered seeing the option.. However on your pics it does state.. to register the new size now go to retrofit diagnostic tools.. battery

That suggests you go to another menu in the scanner.. diagnostic tools? Unfortunately I packed off my scanner today to the buyer so am unable to look at the menus
