Hi, hope you are all well, and thank you for checking my post.

I am looking to replace the battery in my Z, but can't find a replacement using what I assume is the part number: 61216924020

These are the ones listed on online-parts.co.uk

if anyone can point me in the right direction or link me to the correct one, that would be greatly appreciated.

This is the one I ordered from Tanya

It’s a generic battery suitable for lots of short periods of deep discharge and in the case of the E89 rapid charges..

As was stated in the E89 70ah is the min for any E89 and 80 amp for an E89 with stop start or a 35i

Have a look at what battery you have fitted, posting a photo would be best.

There's three battery options for the 35i/is. 70Ah flooded, 70Ah AGM and 80Ah AGM. I've not seen anyone with a normal flooded battery fitted but I have seen cars with both 70 and 80Ah.

If you change to a different Ah rating you need to have the car coded to match the new capacity and then registered, if you stick the same capacity that's already fitted then you only need to have it registered.

Thanks for the response, I did post a photo in my first post, is it not visible?

I will order this one tonight:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exide-EK700-Stop-Start-12V-70Ah-760CCA-AGM-VRLA-Car-Battery-BMW-61-21-6-924-020/323407276258?epid=249625548&hash=item4b4c9368e2:g:M9gAAOSw4gpbdCIL

Mine is BMW original (Exide Technologies) 12V 70Ah 760CCA

The one on eBay is Exide 12V 70Ah 760CCA and has my part number in the title of the listing
"Exide EK700 Stop Start 12V 70Ah 760CCA AGM VRLA Car Battery BMW 61 21 6 924 020"

Thanks again for everyone's help especially Chippie.

Hi folks,

I always try to get the highest CCA battery I can that has dimensions to fit in the battery housing space. If I upgrade from a 70Ah to a 90Ah I believe the battery has to be registered and the car coded....
Anybody had success doing this? I have a Foxwell NT520 scanner.

Regards..

I upgraded mine from 70ah to 95ah, but it didn’t fit properly in the welded in clamp mounting so fitted a 80ah version all were Varta AGM ...

Registered with both Carly and Foxwell..

Could only change the capacity with Carly strangely others didn’t have that issue..

It didn't show up for me to begin with. Strange that your BMW one is labelled as Exide. I'm sure my original BMW battery was Varta/Bosch.

That EK700 will do the job. If you want to get a Varta one with next working day delivery then Tayna have an ebay shop: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Varta-E39-UK-Ref-096-100-Start-Stop-Plus-AGM-Car-Battery-570-901-076/360559159342.

The bracket in the boot will adjust to take either a 096 70Ah or 110 80Ah battery.

Thanks for the info for the battery capacity and boot space. Annoyingly I'll have to invest in this Carly business - had hoped my Foxwell investmet would have been enough... :x

Thanks.. I'll hang off on the Carly one - although I did see that Foxwell state it can register batteries but not code for an increased size (70Ah to 80Ah). I haven't bought a battery yet but just planning - a good battery can save a lot of head scratching. :)

Ah well that accords with my experience..given how many things can go wrong with a duff battery on these babies makes good sense to have a decent battery..
