Battery Location Change

Hi All,

So I sold my 30.si a few weeks ago  :( :( loved that car,

Thoughts have now moved to the M version, The only reason I didnt buy the the M was because of the battery location!

Being lucky enough to own a home in France we need a decent GT, (i.e espace dans le boot) so the M wasnt an option because of the battert et al'
Has anybody had an M and moved the battery to where it is i the 3.0? i.e back under the floor?

cheers

CJ installed an ///M twin exhaust on his 3.0i so relocated the battery more to the centre of the floor iirc, So that maybe an option. Think he also used a smaller race battery to save space.

Echo the sentiment about the ///M battery location. It's very poor both destroying the boot space and raising the COG.

You might struggle to do what I did because of the ///M having a small set of diffuser channels. Just needs inking through.

My alternative would have been to put the battery In the big void low down behind the NS wheel arch. Hawker race battery does the job and weighs less than oem.

cheers for this All, very helpful.

I wouldnt take the risk of trying to do this myself, your barver man than me cj10jeeper!

Any known garages etc that may help?
I suppose BMW would laugh if I came out with this question!

MJI in Walsall would have moved the battery for me at around £300 so I'd start with that sort of company or custom car fabrication. My friendly local bodyshop/sprayers helped me with the actual floor panel change.

BMW would have nothing to do with it and likely have reasons it could never be done.

Could you not just get something like this: www.boot-bag.com for when you need to go to France? I know it is not the aesthetically most pleasing thing, but it gives you more extra space than relocating the battery, significatnyl cheaper I would think and the roof is still completely operable with it on.

That looks like a failed Dragon's Den product. "Lets tie a holdall to the back of the car"
so for that reason "I'm out"

You can hang half a dozen shirts / pairs of jeans etc in suit carriers behind each of the seats. All you need to do is wrap a strap around the head restraint part of the tombstone seat, passing it through the seatbelt guide so it cannot slip down. Move the seats as far forward as they'll go, and hang the suit carriers from these straps using the coat hangers inside. Move the seats back, guiding the suit carriers behind the seat. Hey presto, you've largely emptied your suitcase :D
I've made a couple of trips into Europe with luggage for two weeks for two people, and I've not needed to pack above the boot blind in my ///M coupe

Getting the battery out of the way is the right way to go.

I load up a hardshell case and have to travel overseas for on airlines and don't want soft bags. With no battery it just slots in - perfect. My quad would have cost me that space if I'd gone the ///M route, so could not use the Zed.
