Battery life

The upcoming cold snap got me to thinking about my car battery. I'm still using the original which is now 11 years and 70k miles old. So far I've not had and problems with it.

How long do they normally last?
 
Mines 60k+ and 10 years old and still holds it's charge for a 2-3 weeks, in this cold weather. Not had the charger on it yet this winter. Mind you I do keep getting it out and :driving: :D
 
My original one lasted about 10 years before it went, so i'd say it's probably on it's last legs.

Might aswell replace it before it leaves you stranded somewhere.
 
My E86 had it's first replacement battery at 81,000 miles - exactly 10 years to the day after it was first registered! :)
 
lasted 11yrs, replaced with another varta silver e44, paid £84 last yr from a local supplier.
 
I'm still on the original June 2003, so approaching 15 years!


It does sit on the Ctek when it's not used over the winter which helps. It can't last much longer, can it?.......

You never know - I sold my 325ti yesterday and it looked like it was on the original battery. Car was registered in October 2002, so cross your fingers! :thumbsup:
 
My 2004 E85 sold to a pal still has the original battery - the 335xd (June 2015 ) only lasted two years!

Progress eh?
 
My cars original battery lasted 8 years it was still starting ok but had a couple of jump starts so decided to swap it for something better my friend who looks after my car works for BMW so got me a beefier model he said they use in M cars was a bit of a squeeze to get in but has been there for 5 years no probs be interesting to see if she starts in a few weeks after sitting outside for a month in this cold weather.

You could have it tested by someone like Halfords, the modern test equipment tests for faults and remaining capacity. It doesn’t owe you anything though at that age.

It’s free, but if you need a battery they’re probably cheaper elsewhere unless you have or know someone with a trade card.

My original battery lasted 11 years and 70k miles!

Had to replaces just before Christmas. Died in a cold snap while picking up takeaway. Pizza was cold. A disaster :thumbsdown:
 
I would think at 10 years you would be on borrowed time, though I was in ECP today and overheard one of the guys there offering a Bosch battery with a lifetime warranty whilst you owned the car, I didn't hear if it was an extra cost or a premium battery though.
 
Ok... so not long to go then, although I got my local repair shop to give it a load test while the car was getting its MOT and they said it was fine. It also benefits from a 94-mile round trip, 5 days a week (...not sure I do) :?

S'pose I should do a search on here for what make to go for.
