battery draining fast

Hi guys,

I have some issue with my battery. It seems to be draining fast overnight. I charged it overnight but then it discharges when not switched on for like 5 days. Anyone have had similar issue like this? (mine is a 2005 e85 z4; m54).
Alternator seems to be working; I get around 14.56 volts when engine is on. I find that the if you don't lock your car with the key fab (but engine & ignition off), the discharge is pretty fast. Is that normal?

Don't exactly know whether it's a problem with the battery or something else.
Any suggestions how to rectify this? :(

Hi, how old is your battery? There may not be a problem with the car :?
Rob
It's the same battery I got when I bought the car from the dealership. Not genuine bmw.
Any suggestion on a good battery that I need to buy? Also, how do I check what's causing the draining?

Go into somewhere like Halfords if you dont know a Auto Electrician and they will do a full test .....if you are a RAC member .........call them out to start you and they will do a full test .

Five days is not normal. Hopefully it's just an old battery. Some of the older trackers drain the battery if you have one fitted, but you should get two to three weeks, not five days.

I'm sorry; but what does trackers mean?

There may be a vehicle tracker fitted to your vehicle by a previous owner, usually for insurance purposes. Mine had one fitted when I bought it, but I had no idea of it's existence utill I paid to have a new one fitted. At which point the fitter found the old one :headbang:

Damn. Never though of that.
Will check it out.

If you don’t lock the car, it never goes into ‘sleep mode’ properly and will drain the battery quicker. But still should do better than 5 days. New battery should be first thing to try.

I had this same problem up until last week. Had the battery tested and was advised to replace it. So far so good, but I'm only a week in.

Yes. Some of my lights are turned on when not locked.
I find that the light inside the storage is switched on when not locked.
Also, I see light on my gear.
All these switches off when locked.

Ok.
I got my battery checked just few hours back and they said the battery is good but has less charge right now.
Do let me know whether your battery it's holding up after a month or so.
