battery drain

Battery was being drained overnight last weekish so I ended up replacing the battery itself (thinking it was age related).

However even though I now have a new battery, it was flat once again yesterday. Any idea what's causing this?? - I've had a quick search on the forun/google and nothing definitive popped up.

All help appreciated!

is the charging system working ok, you may need to get that checked by a auto electrician

a little bit more info following an RAC call out...

Battery appears to be ok, in that it chargers fine. I think the problem is during the first 15mins of shutting down the car there is a continuous 2Amp draw (a light bulb is usually 0.3ish to put it in perspective).

After c.15mins it jumps to around 4Amps due to some security feature to start signalling the alarm as the car thinks it's being stolen (as the battery is being drained so quickly).

Essentially it sounds like some electronic/ Board Control Unit system which isn't shutting down - anything spring to mind what it could be?

That sounds like a trip to a specialist auto electrician or BMW indy/dealer to run some proper diagnostics on it and see exactly what is happening.

I've heard of Zeds not shutting down after 15 minutes, but never heard of this particular one before, so no suggestions come to mind

Car at indy - just hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to diagnose, fix etc

To clarify - the 15min 'shutdown' is the standard timing for most bmws I believe. As far as I'm aware, after you switch off some of the electronics remain running (e.g. gps sat nav location etc) in case the car is restarted soonish like when you pop to the shops. The issue on my end is that something still continually draws power during and even after the main 15minute window.. no idea what it is however.

will keep you posted if they pin it down... not sure how easy/cheap it'll be though..!

The 15 minute shut down time is normal. The piece you mentioned beofre about it jumping to 4a is unusual.

Interested to hear what the indy has to say. Hopefully he wan't just advocate swapping random modules until he gets it...
