Battery Conditioners

I like probably a few drivers use there car less in the winter months. In my case I will be leaving these sunny ( or not so sunny ) shores in a couple of weeks, for six weeks to soak up some sun. As the weather gets colder I would like to come back to a car that starts, so I am thinking of a "battery conditioner" to keep the battery topped up, any one out there with some recommendation as to the best unit to buy and the best way to connect.

I've used a ctek with good results on my infrequently used classics. I'd recommend them as suitable for the job and not particularly expensive

Lidl have just had a C-Tek equivalent on one of their deals for £13.99. I bought 1 and can't tell the difference between it and my £55 C-Tek.

If Lidl have no stock left then Halfords do one for £25 which does eveything the C-Tek does at 1.2 the price. I've been using one on my boat for the last 3 years and it's been perfect.

Agree with Dennis O, the Lidl offering works very well indeed. Connect and forget device.

I have the CTek but I think as others said, the Lidl 1 probably works just as well

I've have a Ctec with the fixed lead/plug on the battery for two winters when the Z is on SORN and it's kept the original 2003 battery A1

Another vote for Ctek chargers...wouldn't personally go for anything else (bar an XS Powermaster charger, but they're a LOT of money)

I use a Ctek. Go for quality not price - I've seen a couple of batteries go bang when cheap chargers have gone wrong and the results are not pretty . . . . . . nor cheap!

Do the Zs with stop start have AGM batteries?

If so you will need a Ctek with the AGM option if you have stop start.

I could be wrong though.

All e89 have agm batteries, due to brake energy recuperation. So you should only look for chargers which can handle these batteries. Cteks do.

Best regards

Mick

My dealer is gonna get an ear bashing then as they told me it didn't

Then again it makes no mention of AGM on the battery :? .

I have a lovely Ctek 10.

Really nice piece of kit as it's a 10 amp power supply as well as all the other features.

Thanks for all the input.

Looks like Ctek has the popular vote.

From checking the specs on models available the MXS 3.6 looks like it will do the job, don't see the need for a higher charge rate ,or increased options on charging .

Unless anyone knows different

the lidi one is ctek, just not branded and a h€ll of a lot cheaper.... just getting one for my car after having a look about...

Bought the Lidl one last year, kept my Battery in tip top shape, sure I read somewhere it was a re-badged C-Tek. Anyway it has worked fine for me and only £13.99.

What's an agm battery?

The maintenance charger I use is a one from Makro - The info says it charges to a lower than full charge then partially discharges.

Lidl do this - we got a steam cleaner from them with some mickey mouse name on the side of it - Its manufactured by De Longi. I have one of their battery chargers as well.
