Battery charging E89

Lidl are selling what looks to be a variable programme battery charger from Thursday ( as per attaches photo ) Am thinking of using one on my E89 23i as a battery conditioner / charger etc whilst the car is not driven for a few months, plan is to attach it to the jump points under the bonnet.

Anybody got any experience of this unit / is it suitable ? Blurb says ok for all battery types. I have experience of an Optimate on my motorbike, which keeps the battery on top form for long periods.

I’ve got one, it’s fine
I’ve also hardwired from the jump points to leave the connecting plug behind the front grill so no need to pop the bonnet when i hook up to the charger

That is brilliant Thankyou. At that price I didn’t want to miss the opportunity. £24 on e bay, Optimate and C tek units anything from £40 upwards.
I have a couple of spare leads left over from the Optimate which means I could also hardwire to the jump posts so looks like a job for the weekend.

I don't see anything in that ad that says it works with AGM batteries. I have an older CTEK unit that I have to charge/condition in the 'winter'(?) mode (it has a snowflake icon), and not the standard charging mode. CTEK say this is because AGM batteries are not charged at the same rate (or something) as lead acid batteries.
Doesn't mean there would be any issues, but I would want some confirmation that AGM batteries are fine with that charger. Having said that, perhaps your Z4 doesn't have an AGM battery??

My lidl charger has a snowflake charging mode as well (anyone can use it, no matter their disposition) :P

I waited....................and I wasn't disappointed

Text says it has a winter charging mode and will check to see AGM batteries are specifically mentioned, it says it has 4 charging modes for adaptation for battery type. Smartbears works so am confident it will be ok.

They have been discussed many times before on here. Work ok, and fine for AGM too, their only downside is that if the mains blips (which happens more often than you think) then they terminate the charge and don’t restart. Then they just sit there on the battery as a parasitic load and drain the battery even faster than normal.

So I would say ok as a general charger but no good for long term storage. You basically have to check it each day.

I don’t often if ever agree with ph001..

..but what he says is true, I have 3 of the little buggers...the only thing is that the parasitic load is not that bad, so maybe every 3-5 days will be ok....price performance you can’t beat them..

ahhh, come on.... apart from your misguided views on battery registration, I thought we agreed on everything! :poke:

Purchased one today all looks good, will try it tonight.
Also a battery / alternator tester £2.99 that i didn't need, and nearly an air compressor and a 20m airline on a really nifty reel also that i don't need but may go back and get !!!!

Well, not sure how many each Lidl gets but only 3 left just after lunch today in my local store. For those thinking of buying one and having read the instructions it says that programme 4 ( the one labelled as cold weather setting ) is the one to use for AGM batteries.

It’s a steady seller for Lidl so bound to re-appear..I’ve got so many cordless screwdrivers..always thought the last offer was going to be the last..
