Battery change

Morning all

I'm after some assistance again sorry.

After my starting problems yesterday :x I want to change the battery which should be simple enough, but are there any special things to look out for or do on these cars? I think the last battery I changed was in a 1976 Dolomite sprint so things have moved on a bit since then :)

I've read or heard about a "Vent pipe" on these batteries? Sounds plausible with the battery in the boot.

I've also read or seen something about clipping your CTEK to the cables and connecting to the mains before you disconnect the old battery, so that you don't lose power and have to reset windows etc once the new one is in.

Also not sure what route to go with the change of battery. OEM or something else. Mine is a weekend car so can be stood outside for 10-14 days at a time. I wondered if there was an upgrade/heavy duty option?

Anyone had experience they can share please.

bosch and varta are made in same factory just different warrenty

thats one i went for then found a discount code worked out about 90quid, had it on car now 13 month although i use my car daily, after 2 week holidays its started fine

as for windows been reset mine needed redoing but isnt hard.

Ye theres a vent pip that goes to out side , just a case of swapping pipe from old one and blocking up one end of battery

on rare occasions the car can go into transport mode, mine didnt thou :)
 
Not much different to your old Dolly.

Remove neg cable. Remove pos cable. Remove vent pipe. Undo clamps holding the battery in. Remove battery.

Put new battery in and reverse process.

Re-setting windows is press button to take window all the way down and hold for 5 seconds. Window up. Repeat for other side and all done.

BOSCH Silvers are fine and reasonably priced from ECP.
 
Your new battery should include 1 or 2 vent plugs so make sure you get one especially since some batteries will have a vent in each end. Also you can reuse a vent plug in the battery being removed. I've changed batteries a number of times and have never had an issues with the battery being removed for maybe 15 minutes while the swap was made.
 
Most you`l loose is seat settings, radio settings / channels and the windows

Oh date and time if youve sat nav

Update. Changed the battery out for an OEM one from the stealers this morning. All ok apart from one of the long bracket bolts shearing :x but fixed that.

Lost the Windows,clock etc settings put them right. But I have also lost the blip/ bleep when unlocking and the indicator flashes too. Can this be rectified or is it a trip to the stealers??

I've never had the beep on arm, but it should be able to be re-coded some on here might be able to do it for you.
 
old trick when replacing battery - use cables and connect clamps to new battery and then when you whip out old battery you should not lose any settings/codes etc. Works on most cars but not sure about the Zed and whether it knows its being tricked.
 
Replaced mine with a Bosch 'S5' 110 Battery last week.

At work we have a 'battery on wheels' for starting cars that have been lying around the workshop for a while, so to save losing any of the settings or ECU Data, I linked up our 'battery on wheels' to the jump points under the bonnet before swapping the battery in the boot for the new one. Used a rubber sleeve over the positive terminal before disconnecting it so there was no risk of shorting out.

Worked perfectly :)

Not worth the hassle/risk. Only the clock and Windows need resetting.

Not worth the hassle/risk. Only the clock and Windows need resetting.

Not on mine as above, the indicators no longer flash when locking or unlocking :(
 
Also radio will lose code and if you have electric seats they will lose their settings. Not sure what the hassle/risk is either - damn site easier than reseting things

I didn't lose the radio at all. All programmed stations are fine. Did have to do the Windows's and clock though.

Only thing not working is the indicator flash and noise when opening and closing :x

Update on this guys. A week after changing the battery the indicators have started flashing again on locking and unlocking all by themselves ..... :) no trip to the stealers needed

I checked again today and you are quite right the indicators only flash on locking, I must have imagined it :)
