Any idea why date of manufacture is 1999 yet date of first reg is 2002 ?
Does this mean the car didn,t hit the roads until 2002 & if so should the reg not be a 2002 plate ?
Not come across this before & the reg plate on car is from 1999 ?

Ex military or services car?

Just a thought - had a classic m/bike which was built and run by Met Police for years until re- registered as an F reg and sold on.

There are one ore two Zeds with 18 months between build and manufacture. Would be interesting to see how they show up on this check.

Or an import. When they are imported some are given a registration date when they were registered in the UK but the reg will more likely be one from the year built. Also if a car had had work on it which has replaced more than 70% of the car it can be re registered. Highly doubtful on a car of that age though.

+1 Import

If the car was running a 2002 reg number i could maybe understand the import thing but it isn,t ????

I will be an import, some get a reg to reflect the age, I have seen some get a reg of when they landed in the UK but that's possibly due to other factors. This is the stats for my other halfs R32 GTR

Date of Liability 01 03 2015
Date of First Registration 25 09 2008
Year of Manufacture 1991

Guess what, it's on a H Reg because of its date of manufacture but was only registered in the UK in 2008

So the next question is, is this your car in the original post and if so clearly you are not aware it's an import and you've not been declaring it as such?

it simply means it was built then and then bought and first registered when it says.

my old coupe was built in 06 and bought 08

So was this on a 06 plate or a 08 plate? I assume the latter as the car in this enquiry is showing as first registered in 2002 which I assume the the Z3 he has purchased as per the other topic but is on a 1999 plate which looks to be a S plate in the picture posted on his Z roadster topic meaning it was built in either January or February 1999 as the T reg was from March 1999.

I don't think anyone is looking for a problem. It's quite clearly an import if it was first registered in 2002 but on a 1999 S plate. When a car from a BMW UK is registered in the UK it gets a plate assigned to it for the year it is first registered by the dealer with the DVLA. This however seems to indicate it was registered elsewhere before being registered on the UK roads.

And nightyard's coupe is on a 08 plate so if it was per manufacture date it should be on a 06 plate but I don't think many people would be too happy buying a new car to have it registered two or three years prior to the date they bought it new unless it was being heavily discounted.

My old Datsun 240Z was registered January 1st 1975, 2 yrs after production ended and 18 months into 260Z production, one of the last registered, I never got to find out why there was a gap other than it was just sitting around in a Nissan garage in Sunderland.

Glad you got to the bottom of it. Looks like a stunning car now with those 108s
