Basic Cleaning Routine

The scene: I park in the street. My beloved Zed gets dirty quickly through a mixture of south London air [low] quality, traffic fumes and overhanging trees.

I'm not into severe detailing, however for some reason I do like to clean a car and was wondering if anybody could recommend a good, basic routine to keep my girl looking sparkly and with low maintenance post washing. I'm guessing it's 2 bucket wash (with mitt) technique, rinse, microfiber dry then either polish or wax every so often.

Any recommendations on products too would be cool.

The site below is a good starter for 10......

Is use stuff from Race Glaze....http://www.raceglaze.co.uk/index.html
Their 55 wax is excellent and durable and whilst expensive you need very little to create an excellent shine.

Give the old girl a detail every six months or even once a year if you really do not want to spend to much on cleaning then keeping her clean will be much easier.

CLAY
POLISH
SEAL
WAX

Then use a QD after every wash to keep her looking good

Sealant under wax spud, the sealant aids durability matey.

Try this for starters.

not a bad guide imo :D

If you "bottom" the car you will need to:

Rinse
Wash - zymol ( from halfords ) poorboys world super slick and suds, chemical guys maxi suds 2 dodo juice born to be mild
Rinse
Clay - Bilthambre fine + QD
Rinse
Dry - Serious performance soft drying towel, dodo juice soft drying towel, miracle dryer
Polish - AG srp, finish kare AIO
Glaze ( if neccesary ) - Poorboys
Seal ( if neccesary ) - poorboys EX, FK1000p
Wax - Dodo juice, collinite or FK1000p

Use a simple pH balanced shampoo for each wash, have a wash and wax sollution for every 4th-5th wash to enhance gloss.

You can use QD's to leave a streak free finish but they do eventually interfear with waxes/sealants unless they are paired really.
I tend to use AG express wax ( trade variant of aquawax ) every so often but not to often as this can impare the finish and make it look cloudy.
Once every 6th wash should be fine, its durable up to 6 weeks.

You can do the above cycle all by hand every quarter if needed but a simple wax top up every 3-4 months should be fine then just follow the wash regime.

I've just done mine today as a between wax wash and used Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical quick detailer... absolutely brilliant stuff!!! Though had to keep stopping myself from taking a swig it smelt sooo good :)
