Banjo bolts on standard rear calipers?

Does anybody know if you can do a straight swop of our rear brake hoses to ones with a banjo bolt fitting? Any clearance or hose routing issues?

I can't check this on the car at the moment so any help would be much appreciated! Quite keen to get it right this time as I didn't switch to banjos when I upgraded my front calipers and hoses, and regretted it.

Just checked this myself - looks like a straight connection is the most straightforward. Even a banjo with an angle isn't going to clear the rear spindle, shocks etc as well.

Also spotted this lovely mess while I was under there, so that's another thing to sort now (diff input seal, I guess?)...

From what I can see it appears at least on rear E89 and F series 5 calipers the answer is yes…

I wasn’t sure but the copper washers either side of the banjo bolt seem to seal up ok..

yeah Banjo will fit fine, just make sure you get the correct size/length bolt.. i had to cut one down yresterday, its not a fun job. and use either loctite 567 or the permatex 59214

I just did my diff seals. Pretty common on these cars. While you’re in there may as well do the half shafts.

I had the input shaft seal replaced by a local specialist.

Interestingly, the diff was actually overfilled! Must have happened at the last scheduled trans fluid change and potentially caused premature failure of the seal. It did weep a bit, but no more than I’ve seen on other cars.

What we couldn’t figure out was how one manages to over-fill above the plug line when you’re manually putting oil into a diff that’s still on the car!

I suspect they get overfilled when whoever is doing the job jacks only the rear end of the car up to gain access to the drain and filler plugs not everyone has the option to use a lift that keeps the car level. Of all the ones I have changed fluids on I only have had one which was overfilled but didn't have any sign of diff input seal having failed as a result of overfilling. I do change the diff plug sealing washers with copper replacements the original alloy ones have usually corroded away to lace.
