At worst you could call his designs "interesting", but at least he wasn't afraid to design something that actually stands out from the normal/boring. I know I'm/we're biased, but the E85 Z4 is such a coherent design - the car design works as a whole. Agree about the 7-series though, not his finest moment...

Excellent article. I love the unique and individual design style he has brought to BMW which several other niche market manufacturers are copying.

i for one think he is brilliant and all his designs (some more some less) are so much ahead of the competition and cool, that I don't get why he gets so much hate. 7 series E65? i guess looks still modern some 8 years after it came out. that's pretty cool.
