I’m currently driving an 05 STI and am looking for something a bit nicer inside and a bit nicer looking…

I did have my heart set on an E39 M5 but something is putting me off. I think it’s the actual size & weight of the car. I’ve started doing track days and whilst I’m not a mega hard driver, I think I’d prefer something a little lighter, and power may not be that much of an issue. I’d prefer more useable power and good handling.

What is the Z4 coupe 3.0si (E85) like? How would it cope with mild track use? As in, driving it like you drive on the road, but on a track. Not trying to set lap records.
Are they nice places to be inside? How are they as a fast-road car?

I’m presuming they come with an open diff. Is this an issue? Ive seen M-Factory do a diff for approx £675 so I'll probably plan for this.

Z4M is out of my budget I’m afraid.

I cant comment on the coupe as i have a roadster. General rule is a coupe will be stiffer in most cars. Cant see that being any different hear. But even the open top roadster has a nice stiff chassis i think.
I have not done a lot of track diving in any car. I have done one track day in mine it seemed perfectly fine. It had more ability than me.
I have the M-Factory diff and for the money the best thing i have brought for my car. Not only dose it help with putting power down. It really helps front end grip and turn in as well. Other cheap things you can do is fit an M3 ARB to stop the front pitching left right so much. Unfortunately the rear dose not fit.
The roadster dose feel a nice place to sit. So i guess the coupe will be as well. Its very minimalist and uncluttered. It lets you get on and enjoy driving and i think because of its uncultured feel it has not aged badly. My car is 12 years old nearly so the design is likely 14-15 years old!!

For the cash you cant buy much faster or better really. Get out and have a few test drives. If your near Oxford i am happy to take you out for a drive.

Good luck with your search. Just a note though, E85 roadster, E86 coupe. Thoroughly enjoyable cars to drive.

E85 E85 E85... Get a roadster mate, you will love it.!!! Whenever you see a coupe driver they always look sad, it's because they can't drop the roof :poke: :rofl:
 
Hi and Welcome :)

E85 & E86 are both fine for occasional track work. You'll wan't to upgrade the brakes though. :wink:

That's a fair one the brakes are ok on the road!! I had fade at the track.
 
Despite your aversion to roadsters you are welcome!

Good luck with your quest for non-retractable roof, :D
