Bang for bucks (exhaust)

So I've been having a look round the form and doing some searches.

For what I can see and understand most aftermarket exhaust systems seem to have a negative effect on performance.

Is there a way to get more exhaust noise that's reversible and won't effect performance. I don't just want loud I want a nice sound too.

If it meant I didn't need to sell a vital organ to fund it that would be a bonus!

I would be interested in responses to this as well.
I am currently looking for a Z4M and had a ride in one at the weekend. Was well impressed with the ride, performance, equipment etc etc, in fact was well impressed and has made my mind up about getting one. However, the one big disappointment was the noise, or should I say lack of it. I suppose having had TVR's over past few years, then this area was always going to be a compromise. So, if there is a system out there that would give a bit more noise and still give a nice soundtrack, would be very interested.

Cheapest option is the bypass pipe @ about £30 plus fitting

Next cheapest is to gut your OEM silencers - cost is a bit of welding

Next is 2nd hand back boxes - £300+

Then you're into the realms of custom-made systems from Long Life, Milltek, etc., or off-the-shelf ones from Rogue, Eisenmann, Supersprint & the like - at £600+

popey... RPI + 8.5/9lbs of boost = an angry sounding z4m.....

if you want loud, the rpi GT race is the unit to have!

I think even race performance have them backlisted. Been trying to find an rpi for ages :( they sound and look the mutts!

I have sent an email to a couple of places with regards to the RPI system, will update this thread when I get something back.

Also cant find any bypass pipes for sale???

Its not something you buy really but more do, you modify your original exhaust machine monkey does them :)

If you decide on the RPI's it's best to know for sure what you're getting into.. Find someone close to you that has them and listen to then in person if at all possible. They are very, very loud.

Thanks for the tip, anyone know of a member with an RPi system?

I like the deep sound off the RPi system.

My setup sounds different due to being blown.... But you get the jist... The rpi however is incredibly Noisey ... I love it and hate it but simply can't seem to let it go... It suits the car and looks utterly gorgeous!!

I have Remus back boxes - they sound fantastic but are not so loud that long journeys are tiresome and they pass the noise testing at trackdays. You might find them a bit quiet if you really want to be deafened :P

Which part of the country are you in (no need for specific town)? If you're close enough you can have a listen to my Rogue Diablos - otherwise my Youtube masterpieces will have to do (and they don't do them justice).

but they offer awesome weight savings.... look great and sound insane!!! paird with an x pipe and front high flow s pipe section you'll have a sound that'll humble a TVR :-)
