Badge Removal?

Before I go wrecking my car to change the bagdes on it, how are they fixed on, not having had a mispent youth that involved nicking car badges I have no idea how they are held on,
any help greatly appreciated.

The badges on the side wings and the Z4badges on the boot lid are held on by a sticky black adhesive. They can be removed with dental floss or fishing line. Might remove my wing badges when I get home ready for the clear indicators to go in.

Yes for those type of badges I would usually use a hair dryer and/or a sponge with really hot water. Then use dental flose to ease it off, have some t-cut ready just incase too.

Maybe a silly question but what's the T-cut for, wasn't planning on using that? :o

It's just incase any of the adhesive proves tricky to remove.

I took my rear Z4 badge off two weeks ago. Used dental floss, bug remover, wax and a microfibe cloth. Oh, and lots of elbow grease :D

I'm hoping the tin of adhesive label remover from work will do the trick - or maybe some wd-40.. anyway.. I'll probably post a message in a couple of hours time in tears!

T cut incase you make any small marks doing it, or if the area where the badge was is a slight different colour (having never been exposed to sunlight).

Perhaps I should have been more specific, I replacing all the BMW Roundells, not removing a Z4 or Engine size Badges.

Apologies for any confusion.

Must have been feeling inspired when I got in from work tonight, whipped the side badges off in no time at all. Only items I used -

- Flask of hot but not boiling water
- Face cloth, nice chocolate brown one from Next (best hide it before the Mrs notices)
- Dental floss of the Colgate variety
- Tiny bit Mer polish at the end to bring it up nice. (I remembered that stuff is quite good for removing tar spots)

All I did was soak the badges with the hot face cloth for a few minutes then got in with the dental floss to remove the badges. The dark grey adhesive was still left so I soaked this again for a couple of minutes. I could then peel this off 1 section at a time. There was a faint outline where the adhesive had been, the polish removed this in seconds.

No need for the label remover I'd brought from work. Dunno what I was worried about!

Sorry, not tried this. Thanks for the other inspiration though

To answer you specific question:

Front bonnet is held on by 2 self threading nuts 10mm I think. Pull one grille out for acccess to the nuts

Side repeaters use 3m double sided adhesive. Warm them and pull off or dental floss type methods as above.

Boot lid is a real tight friction fit on 2 pins into the boot. Lever it out but worry about your paint...lol

I was thinking about replacing badge on bootlid yesterday. TIS said a special tool is required to take the badge out. Dealers may charge £15 for doing it.

Nargh you can pull it out by using any flat blade tool but protect your paint and work around it in different spots. I used a 1" wide scraper with some fabric wrapped on it, to spread the pressure and avoid scratches.
