badge on boot lid

My bmw badge on my boot lid has lost a bit of silver on one of the letters - my ocd has set in and I'd like to replace it - does the badge just pry out ( carefully ! ) from the outside or do you have to push it out from the inside ? Are the badges advertised on ebay any good or is it best to get a genuine bmw badge?

Meh, just get rid of it....

That looks very good.... surprisingly didnt think it would!

The back is held in by push pins..... mine was a ba$tard to remove, both the pins broke when i pulled it off, so i had to drill them out of the socket before i could fit my carbon fibre one

No the rears don't stick on or push out from the inside. The boot is a twin skin with no access from the inside.
It's fitted on two pegs (positioned at 9 & 3 o'clock) that are pushed really tight into nylon inserts.

Removal is by prising it out very carefully. I recommend a think scraper or trim removal tool with a cloth covering it. Take care not to scratch or dent the panel.

Thanks - not so sure any more that I want to try replacing - knowing my luck I'll mess it up and end up with a damaged boot lid - may be I'll just live with it - anyone other than me probably wouldn't notice !

Glad I asked !

Merry Christmas All.

On the coupe there is access as the badge is the boot handle which can be removed as a unit. The badge is glued to the front and has two pins at 3 and 9 o'clock. Mine popped off easily and replaced with eBay one of right size that had no pins so not as easy to position.

I replaced mine, I used a tie wrap pushed through the back of the badge and out the other end by the pins and wiggled, not me but the tie wrap :D hey presto!!

Never thought of that - great idea

I got mine out by the cj10jeeper method - not hard, just requires patience and care. Still marked the paint though :x , under the badge so you can't see it, fixed with some touch-up. Used some sticky pads for the new one just to be sure.

i used a button knife, wrapped in electrical tape on the tip, and a microfibre on the back... but i wouldnt recommend my approach

The tie wrap idea above is much smarter.

I used a screwdriver. With a 2cm thick piece of foam to protect the paint. And the paint is still all good.

Btw the above pic makes me want to remove my 3.0i badge & boot key hole  . The rear looks great all smoothed out

Used an old credid card to lift my badge off and fitted one off Ebay but after 6 months it is starting to age so i would recomend a Real badge from BMW!
