Bad Times!

Hi chjade84. The prices people are quoting are for the annual charge. It's better to pay for the whole year in one payment, as most insurance companies will charge you interest for paying monthly here in England (and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland I guess?). Where people live and store their car seems to have a big influence on the insurance cost.

We can choose the excess payable in most instances - from a minimum compulsory charge, can start at about £150 - £200 depending on your car / policy. So if you elect to pay more of a voluntary excess, say £500, on top of the compulsory, this can make your insurance cheaper (excess £700 total), in comparison to paying a volunatary excess of £100 (total excess £300).

:)

Thanks for the response!

So it is very similar to over here. Good to know!

woohoo band A 8) :driving:

Can someone please explain this to me... I currently live in a Band A and when I lived in Cornwall it was a Band A yet there is about £100 per year more expensive in Wiltshire :?

It well Random , I lived in town in Cornwall and in the lovely countryside in Wiltshire

Our postcode shows as "A" 8)

Still nearly £900 though :headbang:

38yrs old with no claims or convictions. Whats doing it is I temporarily transferred my specialist RX7 cover to it, it only has 1yrs NCB on that policy. I'll be transferring it to my main policy soon which has 9 yrs NCB so hopefully that will make a difference.

Those prices seem random and would be too much for me  I've just got my three cars on an annual multi-car policy with Admiral for a total of £450 to cover all three, worth a try if you have several cars in the household. When it was broken down the Ford was more expensive than the Z4 :scratchhead:

Z4, 2.0 TDCi Ford & Peugeot 107
Area A
10K miles each car fully comp with commuting and business use
£300 Xs
middle aged couple 'safe' occupations
two garaged one on the drive
5,8 & 9 yrs NCB on the transferring policies

3.0i Roadster £278 - in my twightlight years ( 63 ) Fully comprehensive with old wife also included. All you lot will still be around long after I'll be pushing up daisies . PO30 postcode.

i hate you all ;-( dam you Halifax Postcode!

Yeah my friend stays up the road in Hipperholme. 1 series costs him £1,600++

Luckily I'm in band A, but with a claim last year, my renewal will hurt. Not looking forward to June

Does everyone tell the truth about the miles they do? Surely there's no way of tracking? I stated 7000 miles as its cheaper than stating 15,000!

39 - married - kids - homeowner - clean licence (somehow!) - full ncb - couldn't be more average but still paying +£700.

I'm currently with Adrian Flux and had to fill and sign a form declaring mileage at start of policy, and when switched from SK2 to Z4 had to fill another form in showing end mileage of SK2 so remainder could go forward for Z4.... so yep, guess they can check :(

Might not matter unless you have an accident/claim (and it is an estimate), as they can/will ask for access to previous MOT certificates, which will show your mileages. But you're supposed to inform them of any significant changes, and whilst doing 7500 instead of 7000 won't make a difference, if you do 15000 instead then I'm sure they'll want to know about it.

At best they'll ask you to pay the difference in premium between the low & high mile policy.

At worst they'll claim they don't cover 'higher mile' drivers and may void/cancel your insurance - which has the knock-on effect of increasing your insurance from then on as you'll have to explain your 'yes' response to the 'have you every had insurance cancelled/voided?' question.

The difference for me from 15000 to 20000 miles was £25.

Just renewed with elephant:

Z4M Coupe
33 years old
15 years NCB
Band B
3 point conviction 4.5 years ago
8000 miles per annum

... £700 with £400 excess.

The 'M' seems expensive to insure compared to previous cars.

Z4C 3.0i Si, 11 years NCD, me and the GF, Edinburgh, (E rating!) parked on the road. £360

When I priced for my soon to arrive new 2.0i M Sport, the quote goes down to £287!

Both "Fully Comp"... not telling you that is with tho', too embarrassing! (bit of a clue - they offer "handbag cover"!! )

Maybe we should start and "Exclusive Old Git/Cheap Insurance Club" ??

I'm in :oldman:
