Bad design or am i a moron?

Bizarre how such a little thing isn't on a standard list of options across a marque :(

Even weirder that it is only paired to BMWs which have electric seats. You can have electric mirrors etc, but if you don't have electric seats - you never get dipping mirrors.

Are you sure that's correct? I don't have electric seats in my 118d (apart from heating) and the passenger mirror dips in reverse on that. I do also have electric folding mirrors so maybe that's why?!

Electric seats has nothing to do with it. I've never had 'leccy seats and on my 2 1'ers and my E89 I got dipping mirrors. It might be part of a pack (comfort?) but definately nothing to do with the seats.

I can see how the OP could think it was intermittent, cos if you dont make the link to the mirror switch position, it could appear that way, and its one of those things that once you know it, you just know it!

Would be nice if both sides dipped.

However, in the OPs instance, it would've been nice if the dealer had suggested that on the phone, a quick simple troubleshooting thing etc.

I took a car in once for tramlining and the first thing they asked was if the tyre pressures were correct. Duh, no, I hadnt checked them for months - they had great pleasure informing me they were all low!

Well, you proved me (or rather the dealer) wrong as that is what they told me at the time when I ordered my first X5. Perhaps it is either an older "rule" as that was 6 years ago or they have different "rules" for the top segment.

Arh, now this makes sense, and I posted too soon.

Remember, Stealers know nothing! However, it is possible that in the past that was the case, so they might've been right at the time?

I thought that myself. Without wishing to start a sexist argument, when i booked the car in over the phone it was on a Saturday morning with a lady, possibly not a normal full time member of the service staff. I can't help but think that if i had spoken on the phone to the service gentleman that dealt with me at the service centre he would have almost certainly made the switch suggestion over the phone.

Ah yes, that is probably the same person that suggested an iDrive update on my E53 at the time which did not even have an iDrive.
