Bad day got worse!

Started off with being told by the Ford dealer that the vibration we had asked him to investigate on our Galaxy was actually the dual mass flywheel and to expect a bill with labour of around 1K. Later that day the Missus jumped in the zed to fetch the lad from school put her foot on the clutch before starting it, rolled backwards and bumped into the pillar between the two garage doors. Only slow speed but enough to seriously dislodge the pillar (holding two rsj's). Luckily zed only scratched  suppose it was lucky the roof didn't come down on top of the Westfield

Double ouch! That is a bad day... hope it get's better :)

I know! I asked the dealer what would happen if I left it and he said eventually it breaks apart and sometimes smashes through the bell housing. On a lighter note the zed must be very strong to push the garage pillar and just scratch a tiny mark on the bumper. :D but there again I haven't had a proper look behind it yet :?

Daily Telegraphs Honest John has moaned about these highly fallible DM flywheel clutches for years. What a bitch.

Mine went after 50k +.....haven't read of another one going on here so hopefully a rarity on the Zed.
Would of been over a £3000 bill but thankfully fully covered by my Mondial warranty.

You won't find one on a Zed  LOL - DMFs are only used on diesels where they reduce the vibration inherent in those powerplants, but they don't like the additional torque very much and fail with monotonous regularity (and great expense). Apparently most often caused by the driver 'riding' the clutch....I'd blame her indoors if it were me LOL.

It seems they've been such a disaster that some major companies (initially Ford and Mazda) have abandonded them in favour of modified ECU software that damps the throttle response when changing up the first couple of gears.

women drivers eh!

i bet she broke the flywheel on the ford too..... i'd blame it all on her :D

Advised this afternoon that Galaxy still not ready to collect apparently the sump plug is buggered and needs helicoiling :o hate to think what the labour bill is going to be!! Trouble is when you start spending money on these vehicles you have the dilemma 'do I get rid or keep now I've spent the money'? :(

Absolute nonsense :x

My Navara's DMF went last week £950.00 in total :(

I've never ridden a clutch in my life

Dont be tempted to replace it with a single..........

Collected Galaxy yesterday. £1224.00 :o that was flywheel, clutch kit, minor service, centralising steering wheel, helicoiling sump plug and labour. Driving home my only thought was I could of had a nice set of 326 wheels for the same money :(

It always amazes me, that a dealer can bork the thread on a sump plug etc, then charge you to fix it :headbang:

Yes, I know that it may have been over tightened etc by you or I or previous owner, but if you've only ever had a car dealer serviced (and especially if you've been loyal to a dealer) they probably buggered it up in the first place.

Ho hum...
