Backbox remounting

Hi folks,

Planning on installing my upgraded shiny exhausts fresh from the internationally renowned Machine Monkey workshop. Hopefully my custom design with MM's craftsmanship will result in something lovely.

In anticipation - i'm wanting to make sure we have all the bits required to swap out the OEM for the modded OEM ones. I know sometimes the gaskets can be pretty bonded together, should i be looking to pre-loosen these with that 'loosening spray' i've seen mentioned before? Or something similar?

I've seen Exdos providing tips on re-mounting them so that they hang at the right angle/distance, so i'll dig that out. Can anyone foresee any other problems that may get in the way of swapping the boxes this weekend? I think MM is pretty handy with his tools, and i'm a pretty logical guy - just don't want to find i cant get the task done because i've not thought of something!

:D

thanks in advance.

Glad your a logical guy any help and things we might need and advice welcomed

I have another jack and axle stands on there way as mine are being used with my car see you Sunday.

Make sure that you have 4 new nuts and bolts Parts 07 11 9 902 957 and 11 62 1 744 323 before you start, just in case the old ones get damaged during removal. I've dismantled the silencers on several ZMs many times and I was only recently caught out with having to cut a bolt, but I had the necessary spares to hand, so I was not held up refitting.

~£30 gets a full set of bolts/nuts and sealing rings for both sides, including the flange bolts/nuts, and the mounting bolts.

Reserved some just-in-case. Not sure exactly which is needed/recommended...

I'm probably a bit late to save you some money, but I bought the bolts from here for £2.18 for 5.

and just incase you have problems with the flange itself (I did), get yourself a couple of these, they work a treat. Gaskets won't be a problem.

hm - what problems did you have? i assumed the only problem i'd realy have would be the bolts not coming loose = needing removal and therefore replacements.

Not too fussed about buying the bolts from BMW.

Ouch! Not sure i can get a replacement for that in time, maybe if i pop into ECP on the way out of london tomorrow they may have the pug ones spare for a temporary fix.

I bought them from the ebay link above, , but was desperate so went along to my local motor factors and they had plenty in stock. I believe they're used on most Peugeot manifolds, 66mm is what you want.
