Fitted a custom backbox I got off a member. It sounded really good for the first couple of days. After that it's just been so loud and bassy. I don't get how the sound changed.
Any ideas on how to fix this?? And why it's happened?
Lol. Probably a build up of soot clogging the internal slots in the box, meaning that the sound waves are coming straight through to the tailpipes rather than getting absorbed by the sound deadening material in the box, can be caused by the cheaper, thin perforated tube I have seen in some aftermarket boxes. They use tube with a series of small holes punched into it, rather than oem boxes, all of which I've worked on use slots cut into thicker tube. Slots are less likely to block than holes.
OR
It could be corrosion inside causing a larger hole between several smaller ones, allowing the wadding to be blown out of the tailpipes a chunk at a time. I use a stainless wire wool around the pipes to stop it happening, as that's what the OEM boxes use.
Either way, only permanent way to fix it is to cut open the box, fix it and re weld up the box.
