The previous owner of my coupe chopped the backbox off. After picking it up and driving it home i already knew that I'll be putting one back on pretty soon. I must admit it sounded pretty cool for a bout 10 minutes, especially when outside of the car. I had a bit of fun with it for a few weeks until I had a new one fitted. But driving with it was not a good experience at all, especially with daily motorway use - it would drone massively at any speed past 60mph. It was VERY loud, even when at low RPM going five miles an hour and would pop constantly, which was pretty fun at first but got irritating as it would happen under any amount of deceleration. I thought the sound itself was boomy and shapeless - not a particularly nice exhaust note. All in all, it made the car feel 'cheap' to me and actually made it feel slower because there was a whole lotta noise for very little movement.
I recently had an Eisenmann Sport exhaust fitted that sounds fantastic, doesn't drone and has some very nice looking tips too.
In the end it's really up to you and how much/what type of sound you're after. If you have the means, it's definitely worth experimenting with a delete. Just keep the original backbox in case you don't like the result.
