Hi all,

Hope you are keeping safe! 3.5 years after my beloved coupe got stolen I am unexpectedly back... wasnt even looking to replace my 325i M Sport Convertible but the father set the seed in my head...

Already planning some mods and don't even pick her up until tomorrow lol.

Any recommendations on:-

New white headlight bulbs
Nice exhaust
Covering the side indicators
What colour to do the calipers
Nice none run flat tyres
Small lip spoiler for the boot

Feel free to throw in any suggestions and what you think of her

Cheers

Ricky

Welcome back. Very tidy looking Zed. Has to be blue calipers with a white car IMHO.

Enjoy. :driving:

Good to have you back Ricky.

Your E89 looks great - I do like a red interior! And with that in mind I might go for red calipers!

I'd debadge it. Just debadged our white one and it looks miles better. Not sure I follow what you mean by "cover the side indicators"

So... i have turned comfort access on but my idrive is saying both fobs need batteries replacing.

Looking at YouTube vids mine both appear to be sealed units. How do I open the feckers?

I'm in the process of painting my calipers. 2 down 2 to go.
If you fancy blue, the halfords paint is almost a perfect match for the BMW blue on the badge.
I chose the brush-on paint, and I'm really pleased with the results

I put mine in a cloth, then a vice, used a craft knife to cut down the middle then turned over to do the other side. Soldered new rechargeable battery back in. Very light line of gorilla glue round the edge to put back together. Had to give a very light sand to the joint when dry due to slight sign of excess glue.

If the car hasn’t been driven much recently then it may be that it just needs a good run to charge the battery, apparently the base from a rechargeable toothbrush can also charge the fob

I’m not sure if simply turning on comfort access will work you may need an additional Module

Comfort access equipped cars don’t have rechargeable fob batteries

I think that is the problem, OP has enabled comfort access but has a standard rechargeable fob

I didn't think you could activate or deactivate comfort access nor have I read about being able to do this in the manual. The option in iDrive that I can see is for Comfort Entry. Are you sure your car has comfort access? as Rob said cars with comfort access have non rechargeable batteries.

Its the comfort entry option in the doors option of idrive. Is this different to comfort access?

I can "sometimes" start the engine without the key in the dash...

Yes it is different. Comfort access was an extra cost option that had to be ordered when the car was new. If you have comfort access you will be able to unlock the doors just by touching an area on the exterior door handle with the key still in your pocket.

Those of use who don't have comfort access have to use the key to unlock the doors and insert it in the dashboard to start the car, although there is method so that you can start the car without the key as you mentioned but from what I recall this only works once the car is started and then you remove the key and immediately you can start the car without the key inserted but once you switch everything off and lock the car it won't work the next time you go back to your car.

Comfort entry which is selectable from the iDrive basically allows you to double press the unlock button and when you open either door the window drops automatically and then when you close the door the window rolls up again. It's actually pretty cool and useful feature, very helpful for when you parked up close against a wall or another car it aids entry and exit in the car.

So if you don't have comfort access you have a rechargeable battery and it should recharge as you drive the car (with the key inserted in the dash), I alternate my keys monthly to make sure they don't go flat. My E46 had the same system for the remotes and it was 18 years old when I sold it and it still had the original batteries in both keys and they worked fine so I'd be surprised if you need to change the batteries. If your car has comfort access then the battery is not rechargeable so they will need replacing.

Hello Ricky....

What age is your Z4? Not generally keen on black wheels but think your car looks very tidy like that. Red calipers would be my choice...

Regards, Mark
