Back up camera - 2005 E85

I have a 2005 E85 non nav and backup sensors. I am looking into possible installing a after market backup camera in my car. Doing a search it appears there are two options. Hardwired and wireless. Both suggest taping into the backup lights. Has anyone done this and if so how did you tap into the backup lights? Seems you have to drill a hole into the bumper to attach camera into them? Don't really fancy about drilling holes but possible other options?

Not sure exactly how you'd connect to the reversing (back up) lights, but could you look at using strong adhesive pads to fit the camera to the license plate. (And I even remembered to spell license your way :D )

Edit: A quick search on Amazon found cameras that are built in to the top edge of a license plate holder, but I have no idea if you can get those to fit your plates?

Enuff-Zed - the Backup lights would be used to activate the camera when engaged. Not concerned about mounting the camera just the activation .thanks for reply

Ah, ok then. I was responding to your bit about not being keen to drill holes. I guess you still need to for the wiring to the lights though?
Maybe a hole behind the license plate where it won't be seen?

Find the live feed wire to the reversing light, thats where you tap into for reverse sensors and camera so the sensor control box only gets power when reverse is selected. You either solder the sensor control wire into the reverse lamp feed wire or use a scotch lok type connector. The camera cable will feed back to the sensor control box and power up when reverse is selected. To make the wiring from the sensors look tidy suggest you use some split plastic conduit to run the sensor wires along the inside of the bumper and into the boot for connection to the sensor control unit.

Just a quick question on powering up the camera from the reversing light power feed. Is there a potential problem here that the camera may take a few seconds powering up and then establishing communications with the display or will it be fairly instantaneous?
