Back to my old Z - time for an overhaul

I’m happy to report it now runs perfectly, super smooth power delivery throughout the whole rev range, under full load conditions! Love it.

Next job is to replace the brake lines at the rear, as where they emerge out from the plastic trim underneath they are corroded, and look like a pair of twiglets 😬

Good luck with that!

My 2nd Coupe needed new ones in 2016 so I got them replaced in copper by someone with a shed and a liking for Zeds. If you use BMW pipes you need to drop the fuel tank, and they'll just corrode like the originals anyway. :(

Yes, I'll be making new lines in copper, the joys of early Z4's ! Once that's done, it's just a case of enjoying it for a while! :)

The only other job left (for now) is the front bumper cosmetics, it has a few sone stone chips and small cracks in plastic lip - I've got a replacement Aero bumper (same as what's on it) to get prepped and painted. When that's done, overall the car will be in pretty fantastic condition!

Hidden rear brake lines were in terrible condition!.....Rusty Twiglets!!!

Update, a few weeks ago since my last post, the rear brake pipes replacement task was completed (replaced with copper). Parts of the lines hidden under the plastic floor cover were extremely bad (corroded, pitted, flaking, separated and fell apart on removal) - much worse than the visible part, seen as the lines emerge from underneath the cover and route to the brake hoses.

There's no way to inspect the mid section without removing the cover, in my case the MOT was an advisory based on assessment of the the visible parts of the brake lines. Therefore, if you have any visible signs of corrosion on the rear brake lines, I'd recommend getting the cover off to verify the condition of the whole lines.

Also fixed the passenger seat recline mechanism, see post https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133945 ....you could hear the motor was operating, but no seat recline movement - very annoying for passengers!

Next job is to fit the newly painted soon to be perfect aero bumper, which is in the paint shop now ! The current bumper looks OK but is cracked in a few places, especially on the lower front lip.
