Back to M.......

The EDC is a pretty important upgrade on these, from what the reviews say.

When we got one about 4 years ago we ordered it with EDC but dont know what the car is like without it.

Ok good to know, I am thinking this might be the next step for me Z4MR to M3! Are you happy with the change!? Think I will probably try and find an EDC car for resale purposes and I think I will use it! But there are other extras that are more important to me!

Yes, very pleased with the switch and more so now I have got used to the car. It is such a good all rounder as well very comfortable and you can cruise in comfort but when you want to play it just comes alive.

I have just done the OEM exhaust mod and the car sounds fantastic now, great mod for 180 quid.

What is the exhaust mod on the M3? Is it the same as the Z4M mod?

Working now thanks! Does it really sound that good in the flesh and is it worth doing if I were to go for an M3? Seems to be a great upgrade.

I have gone in the opposite direction having had an E92 manual followed by a comp pack DCT I have recently bought a 2006 ZMC to go with an X5 . The Ms are great cars but my motoring consists of a couple of 2000 mile tours a year, mostly motorway, local chores, shopping etc and some fun on country roads.

The M is wasted on the mtorway if you want to keep your licence and the range means that taking into account fuel stops the X5 is faster unless you want to risk getting locked up. To feel you are trying (getting the revs heading for the limiter through the gears) on country roads you have to travel at very high speeds .

The DCT box is brilliant but frankly gets a bit boring.

ZMC feels much rawer and still finding every trip special.

Ok, interesting, so where would you suggest going from a Z4MR? Don't want a Cayman or a Boxster! Going to drive an RS4 in the week, but now they are starting to look old IMO and are a little boring so an M3 (with a few toys carbon fibre, exhaust mod etc) seems like a logical choice (and great value). As I want to go skiing in it and seems like such an all rounder. I have driven the DCT and loved it but I think it would get a little dull. So I need to drive a manual. I am thinking about going Aston V8 Vantage or Ferrari 355, as I don't need a car to do loads of miles in anymore and want something special but they would put an end to the drive to skiing and would be changed to a drive to St Tropez in the summer like this year in the Z4MR........ Decisions, decisions, decisions. Any thoughts ideas are more than welcome!!

There was a random weird troll post talking about stuff that was unrelated to this topic, hence my 'eh?!' comment but the mods have obviously removed it, rather quickly which may make my 'eh?!' post look a bit weird and unnecessary now!!

Nice looking M you have there anyway!

3cfe sorry I don't know what you should get, must be nice to be in that position though!! Hmm, M3, RS4, Aston, Ferrari....ha fair play :)

All great cars but really comes down to what you personally need most and what is more important to you.

The M3 is great and pretty good at everything really. For me personally, I needed the extra seats this time so that was a major factor to me.

I think you should push some dealers for a test drive if you can.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

I can think of worse dilemmas to have I will admit.
I am not in any rush for the change as have only had my M for six months and still enjoy every second of driving it, but I am always looking for the next move and I want to take my time and work out the best route. I have stopped driving massive miles now so can have something a little more tasty as a toy or the M3 which seems to just do everything superbly! I always go to South of France and skiing every year and I just don't think I would trust a Ferrari or Aston not to come over all super car and break down. RS4 just for some reason doesn't get me going and the new one is about to come out so will keep an eye on the prices! Might go the Porsche route but I would want a Gen 2 997 and they just seem a little pricey and not special enough considering they all look the same (great cars don't get me wrong)!
As you say JayD I am going to push for some test drives and take my time I am going to try and get an M3 for the weekend as my M has got a little knock and I want it looked at under warranty (why not). I want to have a little more time in the car than 10 mins round the block! Never been a fan of the M6 to look at I know they go like stink and sound fabulous but not for me.

Few changes to the car of late. Might not be to everyone's taste but I am pleased with it :D :

I have fitted intrax springs, BMC filter, aftermarket stereo as the base system is shite, OEM exhaust mod, few badge changes, spacers, but will probably come off as not needed with the BBS CH-R wheels.
