Back in a z4

Hi all

Some of you will have seen my recent post stating I was thinking of getting another z4 after a break of 8 years. I put down a deposit on a well specced 2003 3.0 roadster which had been taken as a trade in by a suzuki dealership,. There were a few niggly problems to sort.

So I went to collect the car last weekend, got a lift from Dundee to Kirkaldy, everything looked great until I got in the car to leave..... and the roof wasn't working :headbang:

Anyway, the garage sent it to BMW who sorted the roof (I don't know what the problem was yet, I will find out when I speak to the sales guy this week) and I collected the car tonight. All the niggly problems have been sorted, including suspension bushes, new parking sensors and a back box has been fitted to replace the back box delete. I also got 4 Vredestein ultrac Vorti fitted to replace the hideous budget tyres

Extras include heated leather seats and sat nav/Bluetooth phone and the rear springs have been done recently. It drives great, and it has arrived during a spell of perfect roof off weather!

No real plans for the car. I'll give it a good machine polish and get a dent in the door sorted. Otherwise just enjoy it while the weather 's good

Cheers

Pete

Good timing weather-wise - it's terrible down here!

But you took your time before realising the error of your ways - I was only Z4 less for 2 days!

Cheers for the replies

So the first job I did on the car was to check the roof drains. Fortunately they were clear and not holding water.

A new MOT was put on the car when I got it and the only advisory was for an under functioning 3rd brake light

Today I ordered in a new light from BMW, and they got the part delivered from their Glasgow branch within 3 hours! It was simple to replace.

The old light was broken into pieces

New light looking good

The next job is a good machine polish and to polish some life back into the front headlights

Cheers again for looking

Pete

So yesterday I had a go at restoring the headlights and the result was good.

I used wet/dry sandpaper working through 1200, 1500 and 2000 grits before using my DA polisher

Cheers for looking

Pedro

Looking good.

Nice to see you using some Detailing knowledge to sort out the lights.

You'll already know this but if not, that BMW paint is extremely hard when it comes to machine polishing.

Great looking Z , can't go wrong with early 3.0 on elipsoids & doubly better on the Vortis :driving:
Freshening up the headlights is also a winwin

Thanks for the comments. Yes the dealer did eveything they said they would and the car is sweet.

The vortis have been great so far, its the 3rd set on 3 different cars I have had and I have been impressed each time.

I got some pretty amazing results when I detailed my last z4, it was my first machine polish and as you say the paint is hard!
