A few other forum members have removed cats and silencers, hark on how wonderful the 'noise' is, only for some months later to remove the system or refit the deleted components

There's one thing sitting on a driveway revving the engine, there's another doing some real miles and putting up with the noise and the drone

I feel sorry for the neighbours on your and surrounding streets

i agree, my westy was measured on a trackday at something stupid like 100db, its great, sound is immense but if youve been out for a 3 hr blat and your just droning on the motorway or trying to drive through the town to ge home it just gets real annoying.

bear in mind that i also drive with a set of earplugs in to protect my ears a little it says alot about the noise.

mind you i still laugh like a little boy when i get the exhaust to pop and by pop i mean dump lots of unburn fule into it and get a little flame out of the can :)

I'll agree with all of that  Mine spits back through the carbs too so I have popping and backing from both ends :D

well colour me told off !!
for my 2 penneth-worth.. my neighbours have a Harley, some have sprts cars so im in good company.
To put some weight to my mods.... i went to Torque Flow as they are incredibly good at what they do. the main emphasis on this is that they tailor the sound to what YOU want. now they cut off the back box, started the car and to be honest i didnt really hear that much difference, or it wasnt the mental LOUD you obviously are imagining. so it was purely my decision to try it for a while withot the addition of a small back box he offered. the option they do offer is that thier work is reversable and can be amended to suit. i can add any size box i choose should i wish to return. I didnt opt for simply a bold on pre made loud exhaust, instead i will get it how i want it. my choice to leave with none, with the option to return to add stuff! I might add that it was cut at a very well chosen place so that should at any time i want to put the original one back on, its a straight fwd job! yes.. all the stuff that came off was wrapped up and put in the boot for a later time.

its down to prteference - the Z4 is a great car but in my opinion, the complete lack of any noticable noise from the rear leaves an impression of "oh.. doesnt sound like a sprts car".. apart from all that induction noise from up front! with the roof down.. i want a zing and a zap and a parrp in my ears... erm... this IS a sprts car isnt it!

Sure, just not a Saxo VTS

surely a deep rich exhaust note with a burble and pop on overrun doesnt automatically denot a Barry Car !! crickey, that means Ferari, porsche, Aston, zonda and countless other cars that make a squeak when you press on in the same boat!

tyell y ou what, come and have a go... bet you smile!

No quite, just check out the mods i have done on my car :P

I just dont understand the butchery you are doing to the exhaust system - why not do it the proper way and get a sports system fitted?

butchery!! thats a bit OTT its not really that bad!

if you can logically explain the difference between a sports exhaust and me removing the back box????

i'd be keen to see your logic in doing one and not the other..

am sitting comfortably !!...

From previous experience (and others) you will be sick of the noise and drone before winter is out

Check out the quad exhaust thread - I had two small mufflers fitted, they gave a great pitch, with all the rasping etc etc However the drone was awful, more so on extended drives, scratch that... even on short drives

This led me to having a full size e.g. OEM size muffler made - Like i said all on the quad conversion thread - but with no baffling, no drone but still delivering a nice deep pitch

I would do some more research on the forum before you remove or buy any more components

equally... of the 62 cars i have owned from various marques and the odds n bits ive done to them over the past years, ive gained a modicome of knowledge.. that and being a trained mechanic of course.. and the Bikes i build... you could say ive a little knowledge on the subject.
i didnt want a quad exhaust... pretending to have the M... nah, whats the point in dressing up a car to look like the one you ought to have bought. buy thge right oine in the 1st place!

thanks for your tip on research.. i will do me best !!

weve got people in a meeting/demo here at work so i cant really get out there to start n video it !! arrrrgghh!! when i leave for work and go home its dark so no point doing then..

Vid will be up as soon as i can
