Back box fell off today...

Well maybe I've over dramatised it. Drove to Swansea thinking it was a bit more raspy...
Got home looked at the back and the drivers side box was lose. Stainless clamps on order and something for everyone to check as my clamp actually fell off due to being mild steel (or mild rust).

Just a heads up...
 
Common problem, just hope the flutes on the pipes haven't failed as well.

I've got some modded back boxes to go on with some of those clamps you mentioned.

Yea that's a bummer when the necks are goosed & its not uncommon :cry:
 
It would be good to know why the flutes are failing. Can only think where people have done them up too tight. Got my mot in a week or two and plan to fit mine afterwards. Shouldn't be an issue with the mot, but gives me more time if there are any issues.

Its corrosion so most likely thinner gauge & water penetration :cry:
 
To get out of trouble you can weld a mild steel lip onto stainless and grind it off in the future. Use paste with the ring and tighten it up...

I think the water and unforgiving ride doesn't help lol especially in west wales...

When my flanges corroded the flutes on both the back boxes and the x-pipe were also broken. They are a thin gauge at the flutes but I couldn't see any sign of corrosion, I think it's the movement between the pipes when the flanges fail that break the metal.
 
Upgrade mmmm. So anyway due to the fact my z'd is about 8 inches from the ground with no ramps this took a little longer to sort than expected. But the split clamp system from Germany works really well and once the exhaust was in the right position they fitted spot on... Bought off eBay for £24 for two sides... If the flutes had gone you could use a stainless steel pipe clamp which would work well to...
 
If you use a pipe clamp would you be able to adjust the height of the tail pipes easily?
