Baby seat recommendation

First, congrats for becoming a dad. There should be lots a reviews and comparisons online, but look foor usability, isofix and good side impact protection, where the biggest differences are to be found.
I managed to use all kinds of child seats in the e85, which is more cramped than the e89. Airbag deactivation is, of course, a must.
During 0-12mo a dockable, bucket type rear facing seat (e.g. Ritax Primo) is both safe and makes life easier, as it can also dock on a trolley. That was a really close fit and mostly used the estate wagon at those times. After that, 12mo to 5 years one or two rear facing seats (we had at least Britax Multitech), and finally front facing seats (Cybex X2 was a superb, comfy test winner).
Regarding protecting the passenger seat, we only had a towel under the seat. Shoes off whenever possible. During the kindergarten years, with lots of sand, gravel and other objects of interest tucked in pockets, shoes and clothing we developed a routine where the soiled outer clothing and rubber boots went straight into an Ikea bag in the boot and the girl was just lifted into the child seat, under a wool blanket, with teddy and cool sunglasses. She grew into open air motoring, literally.
