Baby seat in an MC

Hi all,

I am new to this forum so HELLO to all. I have recently sold our RS4 B7 Avant and bought an Alpina D3 Touring for the day to day slog / better MPG etc and am now looking for an Z4MC for the weekends. We'll be using the Alpina for the family outings but I may need to fetch my 10 month old daughter from nursery every once in a while in the MC if my wife is away with the D3.

I realise that carrying a baby in the front seat isn't ideal but is there anyone else on this forum who can shine some light on this for me?
It will be a forward facing seat. Is this recommended or is it a big No No? Also Did all MC's come with a switch to deactivate the passenger airbag or was it an option?
I know it can be retro fitted.

Info would be greatly appreciated. The seat is a maxi cosy Priory with seat belt tensioner.

Dave

PS - I'm looking for a nice MC in black if anyone wants to sell.

Looked into this myself a while back.

Check you have the airbag off option first. If you do the switch will be at the side of your dash and youll have an airbag light in the cabin. Also check you have isofix down back of seat. If not youll have to get the airbags switched off and use a 3 point seat for your little one. Check out the Recaro ones on the John Lewis website. Very cool!

Thanks Inkey. I have a look. Not bought a car yet. Do the Z4MC's have isofix in the front?

The seat we have isn't an isofix one like the recaros. Its new, bought last week from mother care...
We used an isofix familyfix base for the pre 9 month / baby seat which was great but the next stage seat isn't isofix.

I'll have a look at your thread on it

Cheers

Check out the thread. Isofix is like the airbag on/off situation. Optional at purchase. Mine doesnt have either so when baby is old enough he'll be forward facing in a 3 point seat once I've had the airbag switched off.

Let us know how you get on. Havent sorted my setup yet so very interested is hearing what you end up going with

Not all MC's had isofix. It was an option, but a lot of the later cars seem to have it. However, my experience when looking for my car was that more cars don't have it than do.

You automatically get the airbag disable switch if isofix is fitted.

Easiest way to spot if the car has isofix/airbag disable in an advert is to look at photographs showing the area around the gear lever. The airbag disable indicator light is in the same place as the sport button, but on the passenger side.
