B12 Before and after pictures?

Thanks John well I'll have to sleep over the KW's Lol. Btw I've read somewhere that the rear coils have binding issues do you have this problem ?

Cheers

Not so far no but it does happen with KW’s. There’s a guy on here with them on an E86 and he cured it with cable management sleeves wound around the coils. Tbh I’d forgotten about this issue until you mentioned it. I don’t know how low he has his car, I’m approx 20mm lower than M sport springs so 30mm lower than non M sport. It’s a little puzzling when you see them fitted on the rear, the bottom coils touch for maybe two whole winds, must be a reason for it but I don’t know tbh. Very happy with them though, worth the outlay given how good they are, but I appreciate they're pricey.

Thanks all for the input, defo need to do some more digging.

Shocks haven't been replaced as far as i can tell, figured at 70k it would be worth doing, i'll have the car for a while yet so why not.

Holy two and a half year thread update........Went with a BC Racing coilover Kit in the end, fiddled with the settings and ride height for a while but very happy with the results.

Aren't B8 shocks designed for cars with lowering springs only and the B6 are for cars with MSport or SE springs?

I'm in the process of getting some for my 3 series which is already on Eibach springs. I think it may have popped the original shocks prematurely because of the drop in ride height.

B8s on E89s are for MSport or other shorter springs…B6 for non sport springs..best check specifically on other models…

Here are two Alpina’s side by side during my brief overlap of ownership. The left hand car is sat on the B12 kit whilst the right hand car is on standard original suspension.

As a Sunday car the B12 kit handled brilliantly and looked great being slightly lower. If it was a daily I wouldn’t and even with speed bumps in my local neighbourhood, I’m thinking carefully about putting the standard onto the B12 set up this year when I refresh the suspension.

(Ignore the regs as they’ve moved cars between photos !)

The stance looks great! How does this kit perform in terms of handling and ride quality?

I've got the dampers set about half way so the ride is still comfortable, it is stiffer so feels more compliant compared to the 70k OEM set up that was on the car, need to start working through the other suspension components now and replace anything that's getting tired.

Are your dampers definitely on the way out or you just fancy a drop in ride height?

Here's my car on eibach sport springs with msport shocks to throw another option into the mix:

wanting to drop our car a little( white same wheels too,and yours looks ace) ,standard set up at the moment not M sport,
was thinking eibach kit 15mm rear 30mm front.would i have to replace the shocks for M sport ones ? if so what part numbers would i need

Time to learn how to read realoem.com look for MSport damper part numbers..

However Bilstein B8s would be a much better choice and probably cheaper than OE parts ..

The ride will be hard with not much ground clearance if you go that low..not good for rough roads in Wales..

Just checked I think the eibach kit is 15mm rear 25 mm front you reckon too low over standard set up ? How low is m sport over standard

M Sport is 10mm lower compared to standard.

Hi Peter, sorry for the late reply. I've not visited the forum in a while. Eibach springs here with stock m-sport dampers.

I've since fitted wheel spacers and the car looks even better now.

I haven't read the whole thread, but if you're on non-m sport dampers you may want to consider getting something equivalent.

Cheers for the reply , eibach ordered it’s the shocks I am having issues with, eibach say it should be fine on standard shocks but also recommend uprated, the m sport are expensive and hard to find unless others know where to get them , I have also been looking at bilstein B 4 as a not too stiff option , think the b6/8 would spoil the ride

FWIW on the E89 depends what speed range you are trying to optimise comfort ..at slow speeds up to 40/50mph springs determine the ride comfort..over that the quality of the dampers take over…for me Bilstein B8s on MSport springs were much better ride and handling than stock dampers ..but I don’t tend to drop below 50 mph apart from towns/villages etc..which are fortunately rare things in Scotland..

B21 i get what you are saying, I feel we right off standard shocks sometimes due to the fact we only experience them with high milage on not from new, mine i presume have done 118K so could be tired, although it seems ok ,i get the impression that B4 shocks are better than OE,as mentioned having just landed the car and sorting some issues the bank of car is low, springs kit and possibly B4 i could stretch to.its more for touring ,as i am lucky to have an exige for the quicker stuff

what width spacers did you plump for

On E89s B4 are better quality alledged than OE but similar damping..B6 and B8 alledged to be about 20% more damping

As you say any 120k mile damper will be well shot for sure..
