Ayup strangers

Looks great in the Red

I love the Handover at Lakeland Landrover in the slate car park opposite with the Fells above then a short drive for lunch at the Blackbull in Coniston - beats a soulless glass box on a retail park .

I loathe myself for saying this, but that is gorgeous - congrats JDM

Looks great, seats looks the part too! I've probably missed it somewhere but what gearbox have you gone for? My mate has the dsg but older version with the twin box and not a duplex.

Hi Tom,

Its the 6 speed manual box. I had an A3 3.2 DSG some years ago and had a lot of issues with the box (had it replaced under warranty). Kind of put me off

Sounds and looks like a good'n! Those dsg boxes seem to be intent on being in self destruct mode with gear selection, find them bizzare.

I went out for a test drive in a roadster version of your car yesterday JDM - really loved it - what a great engine - the rasp on the exhaust note and the surge of torque when you floor it was great fun!

Nick, I haven't seen the roadster version in the flesh. It looks equally as aggressive from the pics I've seen on the net though

I am very impressed with the engine to be honest. A lot stronger than the 2.0 turbo which I had in my E89. It definitely has some urgency about it and the shove in the bottom of the back is very blatant on acceleration. Feels a lot more than 212BHP anyway.

Another thing I'm impressed with is the economy. On regular urban driving I'm getting about 37MPG and on a run I've seen as high as 47MPG. Only got 1200 miles on the clock aswell so still tight.

Are you thinking of swapping then or just curious. I personally think they're cracking motors for day to day driving. Maybe not as entertaining as a Z4 but still good fun :driving:

So how did you get on? :driving:

Glad to hear you are enjoying it.

How do you find the power compared to the Z4 Coupe?

I think id have to go for a TTS if i went back to Audi.

Id definitely agree with you about the shove in the back! And those MPG are impressive considering I struggle to get 35 on a mixed 30 commute in my current 2.0 much much much slower car!

Would like to be swapping but not in a position to do so for a while yet :(

Was actually at the dealers to meet my parents as Dad prob getting a new shape A3. Mum has a TT but I've never driven it (which is think is rather mean of her!) and the dealer had this demo so I asked him if I could take it out for a spin - so off I went!!

Id certainly look into one again when I'm in a position to change, but not likely to be for another year at least.

The mrs has done nearly 28k miles in hers since last July when it was brand new & initial impressions weren't great tbh but once the engine bedded down & the car strangely seemed to feel loads better as the miles piled on & it has a decent turn of speed.

It also has the benefit of a usable powerband & in the real world it's as quick as my M3 but it actually seems to feel faster but I think that's what great about turbo engines they often feel quicker than they actually are & whereas my M3 is borderline ugly the TT is a really great looking machine in my eyes people often comment about how nice it looks.

Another plus of a TT is the weight they feel great to throw around as they are small & nimble, my M3 is a barge in comparison, would love a go in the TT RS I bet that's a real flying machine. :driving:
