Axle stands

Sorry for what might be a dumb ass question but here goes.

I'm looking to get my alloys refurbed so I need to sit the car on axle stands so my question is, where do I place them so as not to cause any damage?

Thanks in advance.

Use the side jacking points - they have the jack pads on them.

Loosen the wheel bolts on the front wheel, then lift the car from the rear side jacking point (same side), then place the axle stand under the front jack pad on the same side and release the jack. Repeat for the other side.

Now loosen the wheel bolts for the rear wheels on both sides. Locate the central rear jacking point, then jack the car up and place stands under each rear side jacking point. release the jack and voila - it's up on stands.

I did this for mine when removing all four wheels. I left the wheels on (but loosened) in case the jacks slipped before I had it on all four points. However, I now have a spare set of winter wheels, so would just use those now.

Oh, and one other point - the ///M versions have a front central jacking point, other's don't. And watch out for the rear differential - the central jacking point is at the joint of the cross supports behind the differential.

Cheers mate - one question, how do you jack the car up in the first place? I would use the jacking points to jack it first.

Yep - use the jack on the side-rear jacking point, raise sufficiently high enough to slide the jack stand under side-front jacking point. Then repeat for the other side.

Disregard my last post - you post, once read properly makes perfect sense

had a look under my e86, looks mine has a front square central jacking point, is that right?

Mines an M
Here are a few pics of underneath
Knew would come in handy ;)
You can see the circular jack point in front of the engine metal base cover and behind the front plastic undertray

Ps lift from rear jack point will raise front at same time

The front jacking point is the square socket affair just in front of the sump drain cover, if you buy one of the rubber adaptors for your jack it fits straight in.
