Axel's Coupé - Clean bill of health, up for another round

That's a helpful write up as I bought the trim last year and have just been waiting for some warmer weather in the hope it makes the rubber a bit more flexible.

But last week my garage door broke so I can't get to any tools so I need to get the door fixed first! :rolleyes:

Wow, timing! Just about to do mine as well, and similarly to yours, my passenger side gap is quite a bit tighter than the driver's side. I thought about trimming too, and I'm guessing they must've used a mallet in the factory to get it in! Great result though!
 
Same here, windscreen surround is also on my to do list as the rubber is cracked at the top. Already have the part so good to know don't necessarily need to remove the glass. Car is looking great Axel!
 
Well, I gambled and lost... following my windscreen surround replacement and the tiny crack on a corner of the windscreen it gave up during the heatwave so an insurance claim and £150 lighter, I got a new Pilkington glass and OEM surround. Got to say, the insurance picked company did a great job. Just have to put the leaf-screen and mirror back on, took booth out myself to fix small stuff, especially plastic weld the tabs on the leaf-screen.

What a difference it makes to have a new windscreen after almost 20years! PXL_20260619_174440716.jpg

I've no excuse not to do mine now I've got the garage door fixed, but I'm not looking forward to it!

I'll still advise that you give it a go, at the end of the day you're just like I was and have nothing to loose. I took off the crumbling bits first and broke off the corners to remove the old one in 3 pieces, starting with the sides which are easier. Once you get out how it goes in you can figure out if one side of the top is having a better gap or something. Key is to not yank on it and risk breaking the glass, if it does not come out try to "slide" to where you have a better gap.

For fitting the new one, you might have to trim it a bit if it is too fat to slot in and potentially help it stay in place with double sided tape. The guy who replace my windscreen told be he used some in the corners.
 
Car was due a service and change of oil filter and cooler gaskets which making a proper mess. As the car reached 125kmi/200kkmm and I had the part, it seems appropriate to do the mickey flange and as it had a whine I pulled the alternator, changed belt and checked tensioner and compressor pulley.
Overall everything is OK, tensioner great, compressor pulley great but alternator was a mess: gritty bearings, clicking sound, overrun pulley stuck and wiggling and surprisingly OK brushes but very worn rings so I did a full alternator rebuild excepted the voltage regulator and brushes which are anyway easy to change when they fail.

While at it I modified and 3D printed a new phone mount thanks to post by TriggerFish on this forum. Very happy as it freed the air vent.

The bad news is that I catched that the fan is showing signs of wear but still works. I am pulling strings at work (cooling system is my job) to get a part number or equivalence but no success so far... sound like there is no way to avoid an expensive replacement with a full fan instead of only changing the motor which should be less than £60...

Thanks for the comment and I got the mount from another thread where you share it, thanks for that!

I used the base of the mount and a part of a magnetic mount I already have so it is screwed through.

Thanks for the fan tip, I will check!
