Awful News (tyre related)

So, after our excellent news about Deb's health, it was inevitable some sh!t would happen to bring us back down to real life.

1. Neighbour came round yesterday pointing out a problem with our roof tiles that he could see from his garden (whole bottom row has dropped). So thats a sh!t sandwich I've got to deal with.

2. Hit a crater tonight and punctured the front left tyre. Having changed from runflats in February I was punished with a flat tyre...in the dark...in the rain! F*CKING can of tyre weld was faulty and wouldn't work, so had to get Deb to pick me up, goto Halfrauds and buy another can. This pumped it up so I drove home, but it was flat again by then so probably ruined the sidewalls.

Pumped it up with my air pump and have just checked, its still holding up so hopefully if its still up in the morning I can carefully drive to the tyre fitters to assess the damage (to my pocket!). Just hoping its the tyre and not the wheel (18" not 19"). Also hoping the rear is ok, will get that checked also.

I'm expecting its gonna need a new tyre. Currently has Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tyres all round. Kwik Fit can get Asymmetric 5 on Wednesday, or ATS can get Asymmetric 3 on Thursday (according to their websites). Is it ok to mix 3 and 5 on the front axle, or should I keep them the same number/version?

Not such good news as your last posting but, it sounds like the roof tiles have dropped because the fascia board has rotted away and allowed the tiles to head south. Depending on your skills and access to the area, it's not the worse job in the world.

That's a right PITA, but at least a car can be fairly easily fixed thankfully.

I'd hope the rim would be OK on an 18" rim with non-run-flats, but it would be worth asking the tyre fitters to check it over.

I've no knowledge of Goodyears, but for the sake of just 1 day I'd stick with the same Asymmetric 3 just to be sure.

But maybe someone more knowledgeable can help.

Good luck with the roof tiles too.

Depending on where you live it might have been storm damage last weekend - if it is your buildings insurer ought to pay for it.

It would probably be ok to mix the 3 and 5 as they're not too dissimilar, but it would be advised to always match tyres across the axles - if you were to have 2 different sets front and back that'd be fine. There's a deal here on the 5's if you're looking to buy 2 of them: https://www.blackcircles.com/order/tyres/search?width=225&profile=40&rim=18

Ordered the ‘3’ from ATS to be fitted tomorrow morning, just hope I can get there - tyre looked to still be inflated this morning so hopefully the tyre weld did seal it. I’ll top it up before leaving in the morning, it’s about 3 or 4 miles.

Was thinking the same about mixing different tyres so decided this was better than buying 2 new ones. Tread is still quite good so both sides should be close.

Quick update on the tyre situation - checked tonight and it was flat again, so I tried to inflate it and it got to 1.3 bar and no further....air just pissin' out of whatever's broken! Decided to check the rear one as well to see if that had dropped, but that (and the others) were spot on, so thats good.

Had to roll the car forward a bit to get to the other rear tyre as I'd stupidly parked it too close to the wall. When I did that, I could hear the air in the damaged tyre quite loudly!

So the morning is going to be dodgy. I've got another can of tyre-crap-gunk-sh1t so planning to inflate the tyre as much as it will go (i.e. 1.3bar) and then put the gunk in (if the can works!). Hoping that will hold it long enough to get to the garage....but it will be rush hour traffic!

Got here. Tin of gunk went in as I expected the others to, ie turn the twist cap and it goes in with some speed.

Limped it to the garage, left earlier and missed most traffic.

Tyre flat when I arrived.

Asked them to check the wheel for cracks.

All fixed and they said no damage to wheel, but so much gunk in the tyre that they couldn’t see the puncture!

Took some pictures of hole. Half full of water with bits of broken tarmac in them.

Remember, it was dark and wet at the time. Need to check my dash cam.

haha, you can lose families in these things!

Just checked my dash cam footage and that was the wrong pothole!!!! It turns out it was further back than I remembered which is annoying cos now I have to wait till Saturday to go back in daylight for more pictures. The dash cam shows the pot hole approaching and the crunch noise as i hit it and the tsunami of water splashed out.

Watching the film you can see it miles off, even in the dark so feck knows what I was looking at, but then you don't expect this sort of thing.

But who is going to know?
Can you not claim you hit the one you originally thought you did?

On the plus side, if you have a really short car you can legally park there now :D
