Avro Vulcan B.2

We had the Vulcan fly over at our graduation. Was awesome.

The 60's and 70's airshows at Finningley (Now Robin Hood Airport!) always opened and closed with a scramble of 4 Vulcans climbing away on full throttle. See a sight like that and be an aviation enthusiast your whole life - oh yes...better get your chance to see one flying whilst you still can - I think the only airworthy Vulcan has but a few years flying life left. :(

Growing up next door to a US base in Suffolk, I was into my planes. Vulcan, F4 Phantoms and A10 TankBusters my favourite 3

That's fantastic - I was at a Cranwell graduation (as a guest) in 1989 or 90 when a Vulcan did a fly past - the last by an operational aircraft I think. Just mind blowing :cpilot:

I was in the RAF on 50 and 101 Sqn and used to work on them. I worked on the last remaining flying example XH558.
2 of the lasting memories i have are 16 of them taking off one after another during an exercise and I was on the very last detachment to Goose Bay in Canada where the pilot did a farewell display and performed a barrel roll.
here's a picture I took last year at RNAS Culdrose, I have a 3' x 2' version hung on my living room wall.

I found this photo of the business end of XH558. Where's the FMS and GPS?

I love the anti-flash flip down windshields

More to the point, where's the DSC Off button

Love that plane. There's one at Southend airport.it doesn't fly but they have open days and you can go on board. I think duxford air show is on next weekend and it il be flying there.

At carlisle airport there is an aviation museum with lightning phantom vulcan plus lots more. The vulcan is open and you can climb through to the cockpit - check for availability be do visit if you're anywhere near. They have removed the armrests on the seats so allsizes (ahem) can get in - hours in that environment - amazing.

Had a Serious result last summer.... was in the lakes picking up my RRS from lakeland land rover and contacted a sailing school I've used in the past turned out their yacht was free after a cancelation for the afternoon of the windermere air show

So I saw the vulcan display over the lake whilst at the helm of their jeaneau 32 .... New Car, Yacht and the Vulcan in the same afternoon... what a very lucky hector i was 8)

The Vulcan that appears at most shows is probably the one restored at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire. Saw it about three weeks ago when I was in Lutterworth. It nows resides at the Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster.

It's appearing at Duxford on the 8th September.

My Dad was stationed there twice - in the early 60s, and late 70s. I've got loads of slides from Air Shows they held there... mr brother said they were fantastic. Before my time sadly...
