Avon ZZ5’s

Anyone run these, need new tyres and these seem to get good reviews. Had Goodyear Eagles on the e85 and liked those, but budget won’t run to them at the mo.

I bought a 3.0 e85 a few years ago with these tyres on the rear , the fronts were still run flats so the first thing I did was change the fronts to matching zz5s as the rears were nearly new .
I can't recall anything bad about them and I used the car for a ring trip and a couple of euro trips through france . They gripped ok around the track and didn't wear badly and I can remember thinking they were a damn site more comfortable than the run flats but that's a given .

Michelin Pilot Sport 4, best affordable performance tyre on the market. It is also the best by far in the 'wet stop' category.
They have great wear resistance and grip, a unique combination.
A good test is to get your car on the ramps in a multi storey car park on a warm day. If your tyres squeal as you turn the corners you have crap rubber, its squealing because it's slipping!!!

A bit of slip can be a good thing, it’s warning you that the limit’s approaching as opposed to a “limpet” tyre which grips like hell but then let’s go with no advance notice :o

Uh oh tyre debate looming 😉 like the look of Michelin’s but if I can’t afford the Goodyear’s I definitely can’t afford the Michelin ‘s lol

'slip' is a good thing! are you sure......... If youre in touch with and in control of the car you will know when they are about to 'let go', you don't need an audible warning, although I think we get a traction light on the dash. Get them all the time in my mapped 35i..

They are a great tyre but then you do pay a whole lot more for them than others that are perfectly capable of meeting year round & everyday requirements you could expect of a tyre
couple of good links here for those considering new rubber anytime soon

I’m not referring to an audible warning, I’m talking about early movement of the tyre as opposed to a tyre that doesn’t move. It gives feedback to the driver he can feel without having to look for flashing lights on the dashboard

I’m with you Smartbear. If you know your car, with the right tyres you can feel the transition from grip to subtle slip before it becomes a complete loss of adhesion (ESP and traction control have nothing to do with it). With broad, flat, soft compound semi slick track tyres the zone of transition between grip and no grip is much narrower and the change can be sudden.
For a road car, I prefer the former because the cost of learning the limit of grip can be high if you have no warning that it’s coming. On the track, grip is everything.

I agree but all road tyres give gradually we are not talking about slicks, its just the longer it takes before it slips and the lonfget the transition takes from slip to loss of control the better.
Hard rubber is less sticky, predictable, terrible in the wet and squeals on corners at low speeds i.e. car parks.

Had the Avon’s on my E85, great tyre for the money, another good point they are reasonably quiet compared to some brands. Wet grip was good. Will be tempted again when the current Pirelli need replacing.

I have uniroyal RS3 and have no complaints at all great all round performance and a great looking tread pattern from behind and great price on my second set now after nearly 20000 and 10000 into my second set :D
