Avoid Essex

Idiots. Don't they have something better to do with their time?

DRIVERS in Essex could soon be caught speeding by a police helicopter armed with a radar device. Around 20 signs are being placed around the county to warn drivers they are being watched from the sky.

Alongside the radar tracking equipment the helicopters are understood to be carrying a ‘Skyshout’ public address system which would warn drivers they are being tracked. The choppers will carry automatic number plate recognition that can identify a car from 700ft.

£1000 per hour to catch the odd speeding motorcyclist. Not to mention all the fuel they'll be squandering and the environmental damage from their CO2 emissions. :headbang:

Oh great, what a joy! Thats my neck of the woods!

goes off to ebay to find some cheap stinger missles

I wouldn't worry about it too much. As the thread states, the handheld radar units now have to be used on a tripod because a slight movement of the operators hand while checking your speed will cause a misreading. Can you imagine the inaccuracy of a unit thats strapped to a underside of a cop chopper!? I can't see it being used to convict under those circumstances.

On a slightly different theme am I correct in saying you can sucessfully prosecute any person ( including cops ) who points a radar device at you because it is a laser product and can damage your retinas? Could be wrong but I'm sure I read it somewhere. I would love it to be true!

Sure. Like the government are going to let you do anything to their pet poodles.

Your probably right, they will be immune to prosecution no doubt. Interesting point though. I had a quick look at the subject and found this quote on a laser forum. I know it's a bit sad to be looking at a laser forum but it was a means to an end!

" police use ir lasers most of which operate at the 904nm wavelength in their guns meaning you cant see it but it does the same amount of damage to eyes as a visible wavelength of laser (green, red, blue, yellow) "

I feel the need to file some assault charges!
