Average speed 108mph over 2 hours...

The reality of German autobahn driving is that much of it is now restricted but the southern stretches into Austrian and Switzerland are still very much derestricted. However, traffic as everywhere is increasing and it is hard to get a sustained run. This year we managed a couple of long stints at average of 109 and 108mph which feels like this:

Please note this is legal derestricted autobahn driving: not UK :thumbs down:
I am seemingly a numb-nut embedding these films so apologies for the link

I did cruise for about 30 mins once at around 165-175mph in my old car - it was great - very courteous driving by the other road users, if only the UK was even close to as good :(

Even if we had desrestricted stretches of motorway, I wouldn't fancy doing that speed anywhere on the UK's potholed roads...

I know what you mean, some of our roads are dreadful at the moment but I think our Motorway's are generally surfaced pretty well (or at least the M1, M69 and M42 are - the one's nearest to me).

The concentration required at these speeds is unbelievable. I did an autobahn run from Leipzig to Berlin and found it exhausting (but fun!)

The limiter seems to come on at 170mph clock speed which I have hit a couple of times. Not sure why but it sails past the 155 it is meant to be limited to. I agree that it is very tiring and you rarely see the Germans driving at very high speeds. You also get through fuel very quickly. Most local drivers seem to be around the 100mph mark although we were passed by a very fast C63AMG Merc last week.

I am sure I saw a thread on here where someone said that the ///M will go through the limiter in 5th gear, but not in 6th :?

I don't think it's about going through the limiter as much as it is the limiter being set quite a bit higher than the 155mph claimed speed. Remember a 'true' (i.e GPS verified) 155mph is probably going to be fairly close to 170mph on the speedometer. I've had 161mph speedo indicated on mine in 5th and I changed up to 6th and it was still accelerating.

Same. I've had over 170 indicated in fifth and not been at the red line, although I didn't think there was much more available when I changed up to sixth

I did between 140 and 150 over 400 miles off and on, for about 50% of the trip......the constant slowing down and speeding up is tedious though....like Stuart says it takes concentration, and watching the gap between you and middle lane, as right hand drive in Europe....you can tend to drift a little
