Aux LFB Pedal

Hey-Hey.

Proud 35is owner here. And of the mind set that the perfect is the enemy of the good. But improvement projects are so much fun!

I find the stock brake pedal on the 35is awful for LFB. Too far to the right and too high. The hips, knee and left foot ache after a short spirited drive. And trail braking on fast left handers with the body swaying right, the left hand and the left knee hit each other.

So I'm adding an auxiliary brake pedal. The first prototype is in. More work is needed. And two automatic size pedals is too busy. The aux pedal will become a manual size pedal. And perhaps the stock pedal too. TBD. I drove this morning down a very familiar road, and goodness me, what a difference! The bee's knees. I can't wait for the next iterations.

But I need an angel. If you own a manual, could you please measure (1) the width of the stock brake pedal, and (2) the gap between the brake and the throttle?

Thanks,

Marc

Just measured it - the brake pedal on mine (2016 N20 engine) is 55mm wide and the distance between the two pedals is 55mm too.

Guessing that the bigger engines will have the same size pedal box

The 55mm was the distance between the clutch and brake measured at the widest point of the rubber.

The distant between the throttle and brake is 70mm at its widest part (75mm att the top of the rubber)

Oh, Jason. Brilliant. Thank you.

I’ve ordered brake/clutch pads for the E30. They’ll arrive later this week. Then I’ll cut these two pedals accordingly.

Thanks again.

Second try. The first was too close to the foot rest. I was riding the brake. This one the left hand and left knee slightly touch on left bends, somewhat similar to right bends. Very manageable. I think I can add washers/spacers for an extra gap. The feel is great. Very balanced between both feet. Comfortable too.

A good ergonomic solution that.

Out of interest where did you get the footrest cover from? I've been struggling to find one for the Z4.

It came with the car. I thought it was stock. Perhaps the previous owners installed it. Dunno.
