Aux Installation

Hi,

I've bought a cable from fruity cables and am attempting to fit it.

I've got the vent off and radio out, I'm just not sure where I need to actually put the wires! Car is a 2007 e86 z4 with sat nav. I've attached pictures of what the back of my radio unit looks like. (I pulled out the black clip which I am holding in the second pic, it was plugged in next to the white coloured one).

Thanks for any assistance

The wires should be connected to a small black block which you push into the back to the unit. Yours looks to be missing the connector :?

Ah - I wasn't sure if mine didn't have that so that I can connect both it and the sat nav at the same time (not that the nav is ever used!). I'll message the seller and see if he can help.

Cheers

Make sure they sent you a cable with MQS connectors. I used them before and my cables have been loose for 3 years requiring a hard knock on the dashboard to get a sound. Turns out they used dupont connectors which are smaller and too loose.
I actually emailed the seller a couple of days ago pointing this out, he assured me that they use the correct type now. I can't see from your pics but just be aware.
I always though the aux sounded like garbage, no bass etc. Well now I've soldered on the new connectors it as good as the CD player, which is really good!

i seem to remember if you have nav and dps the cable did come like this, you have to put those wires into an already present connector, just email fruity and he should give you some instructions

no problem.. let us know if it works.. handy for other members that may come up against the same issues

I've plugged in the wires from fruity cables into the correct pins, however pressing the mode button on the radio unit does not cycle through to 'Aux' it only switched between CD and Radio.

I've attached some pictures which hopefully show the installation is correct. Any idea why it wont recognise the aux?

The wires I've installed are pointed out with the arrow.

Any help would be great.

Did you get this working in the end?
Have the same system as you (plus ipod prep) and my aux fruitycable arrived today so will be doing the install at some point.

I've not had any luck unfortunately. I've messaged the seller but not had a reply as of yet.

I went through 2 sets of cables before I found out about needed to add resistors/capacitors to the cable.

Unfortunately what they seem to sell online (for the cables) aren't always plug-and-play as it's not as simple as having a signal - the headunit checks for certain loads/resistances in order to enable the AUX setting.

This is what you'll need to do:

I bundled it up after so it's a lot neater in the end.

I can't find the exact thread I referenced off but basically we're adding a capacitor at each cable (red and white) and running a resistor (300k iirc) between them. This will then work.
