Aux In Cable - E46 Different?

Hi - I just got this from the guy who is making me the cable, can you tell me if this is the case. He said the Mini one is the correct one as it is 12 pin which he could send me instead.

Believe it or not, the E46 cable is wired slightly differently and uses a 10
pin connector. The Z4 cable is basically the same as the one fitted to the
BMW Mini, from my research the Z4 radio connector is 12 pin and wired
differently although only 3 wires are used in all cables.

Its not a problem as I can make it for you, I am about to list some BMW Mini
cables soon anyway.

You could fit the E46 one and connect it so that pins 1 & 7 on the left of
your radio connector are left disconnected, but whilst this would work, the
L and R audio channels would be reversed so its probably not a good idea.

Mini one is the one you want. But IIRC when i called the dealers the Z4 one was the same price as the mini one. Not sure if they were trying to have me over though :lol:

Yes mini one is fine at IIRC usually cheaper than the BMW Z4 one.

E46 uses round pins on main harness where as Z4 are flat, plus differences in the two smaller plugs as above.
