Aux In and 6 disc changer, possible?

Hi all,

Please could anyone tell me if it's possible to run both a aux in and the 6 cd changer through the nav head unit?

I have received this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E85-Z...5?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item43b7507bbb off ebay yesterday and have emailed the seller previously with the same Q to which he replied it has been done. He has been very helpful and left the pins out of the block and sent me the block as well as sending a few guides to show how it is normally fitted.

I had the H.U out today (vents were a breeze!!!! ) and I thought this was going to be an easy task until I took a look at the wiring and that then threw my confidence :? I took the block indicated in the black and white diagram out to try and figure a way to double up the pins but the cd changer was still active????

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can use both. If you have Bluetooth though you will have to merge that plug and your aux plug into one.

Sure you can, proper pinning for both is described in this thread: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=42071&p=595971#p595971 You will either have to insert the pins of the new cable in the old C connector block, or the other way around. CD changer is in the B block... Easy as that

Thanks for the pointers guys

I have tried looking all this up on here but could not find what I was looking for

After reading most of the literature I think I'm nearly there, just one more question if poss?

After previously being told to put the pins in hole numbers x on the black block "b" and discovering what I thought to be the correct box was white it through me a little.

Is block b white with white cables?

And if I have nav and bluetooth why is ther only 3 cables going into it?

At the moment the best picture I have is this:

7662143420_30d4120267_b.jpg C block is no 2 and is OEM balck (as opposed to the white aftermarket thing showing in my pic)

You can easily test whether you have the proper block by checking which functionalities you still have when the block is disconnected from the head unit:
- CD changer no longer functioning --> plug back in you just disconnected the B block. AUX IN will not function properly there.
- Sat nav lady no longer speaking to you: congrats you just dosconnected the C block. Now plug in wires from the AUX input and reconnect.

Cheers Mau,

good pointer I will give it a go tomorrow when I have some daylight.

I have been told block B terminals 3,4 and 10 by the supplier but these were already taken.

Cheers,

Kal.

Hi Kal,

Supplier was fully right on the relevant pins (you indeed need 3,4 and 10), but not on the block. Thus give it a go tomorrow with 3,4 and 10 in block C (which will currently be empty) and AUX will magically appear in your display ...

Cheers,

Maurits

The supposed conflict between aux in and CD is a common misconception. Anyone who's figured out how to navigate the WDS knows it's simply not true. I'm curious how this rumour ever got started. I'm guessing it's because the more sophisticated i-pod adapters and similar devices that mimic the CD changer do require abandoning the CD changer, since they connect into the CD wiring under the rear cubby.

That shouldn't make any difference as they still use the same interface. Probably just the fact that aux from BMW supplied with it's own plug meant that some people thought you had to remove the CD changer plug and replace with the Aux One.

Don't forget in the UK all Z4's are pre wired for Changer which will be connected to the head unit so in the early days I'm guessing most just disconnected it.

It's done, the pins slotted easily into block c (maybe a little to easy as they seemed to be a little smaller than the OEM ones.)

The vents didn't come out quite as easy as the first time, I was a possibly a tad lucky first time.

For the price of it the cable from fruity car cables is top value. It has a proper Iphone connection and a USB charging adaptor, I was just expecting a jack.

The sound is alright too breaks up a little under deep bass though (may be to do with the pin size and poor connections), but that was the reason I wanted convenience and to keep the cd changer for quality sound on my stereo.

At the moment it's routed through the back of the steering wheel height adjustment gap thingy until I have found the best position for it in relation to the cig lighter and a decent place for the cradle. suggestions are welcome???!!

Thanks again your help and patience is greatly appreciated.
